What to do and see in Kitzbuhel, Austrian Alps: The Best Things to do Good for Adrenaline Seekers

February 24, 2022 Tambra Mccollister

One of Austria's most luxurious ski resorts, ritzy Kitzbühel, known as "Kitz," basks between the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn mountains. Every winter, Hahnenkamm's Streif slope is the site of one of the hardest downhill runs of the World Cup Ski Race. In summer, this Tirolean town sees tennis fans arrive in droves for the Austrian Open. Its winding, cobblestone medieval streets are packed with sports cars and upscale boutiques as Europe's glitterati descend on these hallowed slopes.

What can we say that’s not been said before? Well this is our second time to the beautiful Kitzbuhel area. We took our first tour on e-bikes in 2018 with the amazing, enthusiastic, and animated Tom! Which was just brilliant, seeing some of the most stunning scenery in a beautiful part of the Europe that neither of us had been to since adolescence! So taken by the area we returned in 2019 and did it all again TWICE!!! Tom is the most amazing genuine ‘English’ Guy you will ever meet, just loved the bones off him. Looked after everyone on all e-bike tours regardless of ability and equally encouraging and kind to all. What an adventure, we travelled some of he most beautiful countryside, had an amazing lunch and company! Easy to operate bikes even if you haven’t been on a cycle for a while they were modern and really easy to operate and you’ll be going home ‘wanting one’! Really made the holiday memorable but must add a bit of extra posterior padding wouldn’t go amiss if you do it more than once ouch! Mind Tom was a diamond for hubby! Really can’t recommend enough it was a blast, and very very reasonably priced . We hope to return to do it all again next year, our kind of holiday and every one else’s going by the comments made by the other cyclists met on the tours. A brilliant way to see another part of the area you wouldn’t get to on under your own steam! Thanks guys at Element3 loved every minute xxx

The Kitzbühler Alpen Ski region is a top class Ski resort area which has earned best European ski resort awards year after year for good reason. They invest very heavily in their infrastructure, with the newest lifts with seat heating, snow cannons (not that they were necessary this year!). I’m not sure whether another resort exists with as many hundreds of Kilometers of groomed slopes and modern lifts. You can ski for days without covering the same slopes twice. All of it is interconnected with an extensive bus network, and all the personnel are super friendly and helpful.

Great 2-2.5 hour hike, along the world famous 'Streif' slope. Crazy to see where they ski down in winter, it's scary steep. The hike itself is rather 'easy', depending on how far you want to go (after app. 1hr you reach the lovely Seidl Alm (nice to sit, also serves breakfast for the early birds) and after another hour you reach the Hahnenkamm. Very scenic with great views, if you're lucky you meet the horses on your way. You could also do a loop and hike down another path, so many options.
