Kitzbuhel Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Kitzbuhel

January 3, 2018 Kiesha Cripe

One of Austria's most luxurious ski resorts, ritzy Kitzbühel, known as "Kitz," basks between the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn mountains. Every winter, Hahnenkamm's Streif slope is the site of one of the hardest downhill runs of the World Cup Ski Race. In summer, this Tirolean town sees tennis fans arrive in droves for the Austrian Open. Its winding, cobblestone medieval streets are packed with sports cars and upscale boutiques as Europe's glitterati descend on these hallowed slopes.

We had an excellent pizza, beef steak was delicious as well. Wine selection sufficient, also a variety of desserts, only coffee was something I was expecting better in an “italian” place :) Service very helpful and the central location in Kitzbuhel was suprisingly not overpriced

Good pizza, great saladas, service and location. Stronly recommend it

A very popular and very busy bistro cafe / restaurant in the centre of Kitzbuhel.
We struggled to get a table but after a short wait found that it was worth it.
The atmosphere was very lively - seems to be THE in-place for apre-ski snacks and food.
Afternoon and early evening the 'snack' menu comprises pizza, pasta, salads.
After 6pm there is a larger menu including meat and fish.
Service was very friendly, the busy-ness of the place resulted in a somewhat frantic service.
The food was good - we shared 2 very nice pizzas.

Rosi`s Sonnbergstuben

This cozy, traditional hotel and restaurant is located on the Bichlalm mountain pasture high above Innsbruck, far away from the tourist crowds. It offers clean mountain air and breathtaking views of the Kitzbühel Alps. Enjoy Tyrolean hospitality, refined wines, and regional culinary delights in the cozy dining rooms. Your host is Rosi Schipflinger, called the "Singing Hostess", well known for her "Kitzbühel Song".

We were taken here by friends that we were visiting in their sommer retreat in Austria. We went up the Mountains to Rosi's Sommerstuben as it came with recommendations for its Kaiserschmarrn and I have to say that these recommendations were spot on. I also took a platter of cold cuts and meats and a beer and I was a very happy man indeed. The only downside were the copious number of wasps but I am afraid that there is not much that one can do about that.

This is a noisy, friendly restaurant in the centre of the old town, frequented by locals and tourists. Austrian dishes served in huge portions and own-brewery beer are the attractions. Do not expect to get a quiet table for two; every time we have eaten there we have shared a large table with other diners, always an interesting experience.
Good food and good atmosphere, but, be aware, no credit cards accepted.

As we love long and relaxing lunches (and dinners) with good quality, we selected this restaurant with 14 Gault Millault points (1 Haube). And we made a reservation which is recommended if you do not want to be disappointed. We choose to sit in the inner part (more Austrian style) instead of the 'Wintergarten' where you see the pedestrians passing by. My compliments to Niko our waiter (who was in charge of the staff?), very experienced and attentive. We indicated in a subtle way, we would like to take it slow which he immediately picked up. Next to the outstanding service from Niko, the food was delicious and nicely presented. The Austrian white wine we selected, made a good match. We had a very pleasant lunch and enjoyed it a lot. The one minor point is the smoking area which you have to go through in order to enter the restaurant. Hopefully we will return one day but we will ensure to sit far away from the connecting door to the smoking area.

The first good thing about this restaurant is the fact that it serves food non stop up till 11pm! Many restaurants in Kitzbuhel and other parts of Austria just close at 2pm.
The atmosphere is of a traditional Tyrollean restaurant but it lacks any excitement or authenticity. Like plenty of these restaurants in the Austrian Mountains they no are no longer run by local families but by immigrants for the eastern Europe.
The menu is a big affair with plenty of choices of traditional Austrian and Tyrollean favourites, plus a lot of Italian Pizzas and pastas. It's strange but it seems they run an Italian restaurant in town. Whatever.
We tried the Goulash with the Spätzle and it was good. The Deer stew was also tasty. The Cordon Bleu looked the part and was quickly dealt with.
The service is professional but totally impersonal so don´t expect too much on the human part. 5 people with 2 beers gets you a 78€ bill. Not cheap but this is a rich town...

Gasthof Melkalm Kitzbuhel

Reviewed By funnygermangirl - Ojai, California

This cabin style restaurant is nestled in midst of the Hahnenkamm ski slopes. It doesn't get more cozy; Austrian "Gemuetlichkeit" pure! We went there for lunch and ordered Kaesepaetzle (little homemade dumpling-like noodles with melted gourmet cheese) and Kaiserschmarrn (a shredded crepe-like pancake dusted with powdered sugar). The Kaiserschmarrn was so light and fluffy, and the hint of butter taste so divine that we literally stole bites off each others forks. You get a choice of either apple or plum compote with it. Our wonderful, friendly waitress suggested we go with the plum compote, and she was right: it couldn't have complimented the Kaiserschmarrn more perfectly.
Of course we had to try their "Gluehwein" (hot, red wine spiced with cinnamon sticks, sugar, cloves and slices of orange) and their "Jagatee" (same spices as the glow-wine, but made with hot, black tea, overproof rum, fruit brandy and red wine). Both were superb!
Service was outstanding and super friendly. Concidering how busy the cabin was at lunchtime, as more and more hungry skiers were filing in, we were in disbelief how quick and efficient the service remained. We noticed they had an organized system going, where every staff member had a little digital machine on their person, showing which food or drink item belonged to which table, which had already been delivered, who had paid up and who hadn't yet. Ergo, if our waitress was busy taking someone else orders, her other guests didn't end up with lukewarm drinks. Instead, someone else served them straight from the bar to the tables, fresh and hot.
What a fantastic restaurant. We will definitely be back next trip!

Elegant dining. This was a highlight of our trip. Quiet and beautifully decorated dining room. Impeccable service. Had a wonderful meal with our 3 children, ages 8,8 and 10. Comfortable for all. Adults attempted the 4 course meal. It was perfection in every way, although a bit too much food for me.
We are going back tonight. Such a treat!
