Ptil Tekhelet

Ptil Tekhelet is just off the highway from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea. It is a perfect place to stop on the way to or back from Masada, Ein Gedi, or the North. The remarkable story of the ancient Biblical Blue dye is brought to life through 2000 year old artifacts, a state-of-the-art virtual reality underwater search for the sea-snail source of the dye, and especially the magical experience of watching the dye process and the wool changing colors before your eyes. The history of the loss of this ancient commandment/craft and its rediscovery in modern times is fascinating and inspiring.

Ein Prat Nature Reserve (Wadi Qelt)

The desert scenery, abundance of water and varied vegetation create this unique oasis – the Ein Prat Nature Reserve. You will also find monasteries and archaeological findings – remnants of human activity in different periods.

On a warm and clear late winter day we drove down to the area above Jericho to explore a bit of the landscape punctuated by rare wild flowers and green fuzz from a long wet season. Stopped first at a fine lookout en route to St. George's monastery that hugs the valley wall in Wadi Kelt. Easy to find: on the left side of the road there is a huge cross at the top of a small hill. Park and walk up the hill. The monastery itself is just a bit further down the asphalt path. Park near a stone gate crowned by a cross, enter and start to descend. It will be worth the effort. Open from 9 till 13 daily.

Ein Mabua

Reviewed By IgalC - Kfar Adumim, Palestinian Territories

I leave nearby. I go there twice a month. Hiking, Accompanying group of friends or tourists. It ia a part of the marvellous oasis of Nahal Prat (Kelt). Sometimes it is too crowded so it is recommended to make a hike to the west towards Kfar Adumim or east to "Ein Kelt" sppring. Follow the water and the the signs on the rocks. The building is the old pumping station. You can find there rangers of the Israeli Parks authority

Euthymius Monastery

The remains of the monastery tell the story of Judean Desert monasticism during the Byzantine period. The expansive monastery includes the entrance gate, crypt, monastic cells, church, inn and waterways. We recommend visiting the covered observation point, located by the mosaic floor decorated with geometric patterns, and you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Judean Desert mountains. The park has a huge water reservoir that served the inhabitants of the area through the various periods. There are stairs going down to the bottom – a highly recommended experience!
