Does not look very interesting from the outside because it is very simple but the inside is really nice, all in wood and with very old paintings, really very interesting to visit.

Kezmarok Castle

Reviewed By BranoS - Siladice

Location: very little labels, please use GPS to find. Parking on the street is for 0,1E for 45 min and 0,1E for every following 15 min.
Castle: please come before 15.00. Personnel is working hard to get the place closed at 16.00. Overal is castle in very good condition and several artefacts are really nice to see - history of Tatry hiking, jewinsh city past, some cool city specialies.
Tour: for 3E is claimed 80 min tour. Reality is different. In fact you cannot buy tickets, people first refuse your request and give you time when you should come try to buy - they call it just before the tour start. It mean 5 min before full hour of 30 min depend on mood of 4 ladies waiting inside ticket room. During or visit they refused 12 people waiting till "we are group bigger than 5 people, 5 min before full hour". First time I have experienced such anti-customer approch. Tours are in slovak only - foreing people should get papers with explanation - 70s like quality.
Tour was supposed to be fro 80 min, we had very "skilled" lady, she managed it in 40 min. Clearly rushing to get quickly home. Her trick was 3 sentences in every room and turning light off and closing doors quickly. Horrible.
Overall: it is nice place, good option for period with raining in Tatras or when you are in the city anyhow. Visit on purpose have limited value.

We go to Kezmarok every year, in the second weekend of July the town put on a weekend of European culture that includes many country's with there local dancing traditions (my daughter loved this) the town has a civil war that they re act, it's great to watch and includes cannons, guns and sword fighting! When the kids go to bed there's plenty of food to test with local cuisine and also food from other country's like Germany! The beer is great and is usually about 1:20 euros a pint!! Yes about a pound a pint!! The weather was great all in all a fantastic town with a great amount of history!! Will be back in July 2014!!

New Evangelical Church

Right next to the old wooden unesco listed church stands a "new" one, built in mid 19th century as a more sublime temple. It;s clearly visible from a distance thanks to it's pink-ish colours. The ticket you buy to visit the old church allows you to visit the new one. But unfortunatelly when we were there there was a wedding going on in new church and we didn't go in. But apparently we didn't loose that much.

The store concept of this galery is very unique. It is located in a small town however the quality of the art which is available there is breath taking. Indeed you could find there the best Slovak artists e.g. Albin Brunovsky, Katarina Vavrova or Nikolaj Fedkovic. His pictures are very modern and slightly abstract however with very fine details and a story behind it. There is always more than meets the eye.
There you could also find very sophisticated coffee and tea cups which are nice as a gift:-).
