We are overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Horcher family - Alfred Hubert, Thomas et Lise. Thomas patiently led us through the tasting of 18 different variety of the family white wine production, interesting! Lise showed us "must see" places in the area and where to get their wine in our country. And their wine ..... Mmm! François thanks you.

The little village of Riquewihr, not far from the Rhine River, is a wonderful place to take photographs, with its brightly colored historic buildings. We found the merchants there to be friendly and accommodating. One thing we found strange was that when we visited there on a Sunday morning, both the Protestant Church and the Catholic Church were locked.

Like many of the towns in the area the old town is very beautiful with many half timbered building in many colours. Unlike some of the other towns there are not so many tourist orientated gift shops. Instead there are good shops selling local produce as well as many eating places and wineries. Well worth a visit, especially if you are there for the excellent market on Friday morning,

This turned out to be even more interesting than their web site presented. Our grandchildren loved it, but in addition it gobs of information about storks, otters, and other creatures, the whole place is a wonderfully and beautifully planted wet land with ponds, boardwalks above the wetlands, a woods-like collection of willow trees and a massive treehouse. Its location on the road between two of the most beautiful villages in Alsace makes it great for a half day excursion.

La Grand-Rue

Reviewed By acasasnovasg - Heathrow, Florida

Ribeauvillé la Ville...
A fantastic "Grand Rue" attractions at la Ville of Ribeauvillé Town in mythic Alsace !

Hope this lines finds its ways of doing this review right to enter the right place- as needed- in our dear TA Web site correctly....as I will love to provide the correct and most accurate info about that charming place of Ribeauvillé- La Ville to all our review readers and all travelers looking for recommendations while or traveling to that mystic Alsatian Region and its best attractions
A few days back I wrote a review just for Riquewihr Vieille Ville, but Riquewihr even thought is an almost twin-town to Ribeauvillé...are both very different towns and-both- are rated among the most beautiful villages not only in Alsace, but in France as they are highly included in the list of...
"Les plus Beau Villages de la France"
Both towns are #perfectpostcardvillages that we had enjoyed visiting a couple of times over the years, but as professional architect and art lover it is always fascinating to admire-once more time- its very well preserved wooden houses and the unique character of these historic villages. Regardless its "touristy" character, they had preserved an atmosphere that is truly Alsatian.
When we planned our last September-October cherished Gastrotour de la France, all our schedule revolved around availability in our dearest "L'Auberge de L'Ill" at Ilhausern, nearby Ribeauvillé, east les Vosges Mountains and Forests, in that magical Alsace region.
Those are places that myself, as professional architect and art lover, find that holds a great-special combination of history, culture, scenic views and wines, that makes them two of the most delightful places to visit in all Alsatian region
I founded that both villages are rather different in character; Riquewihr being more "Medieval like fortress town" and la Ville of Ribeauvillé having a more opened architectural layout in its Ville semi-pedestrian streets and having more commercial live on its fantastic attraction of main street-"La Grand Rue"- than its nearby twin town of Riquewihr
Taking advantage of that lively attractive commercial offers, our wives (we were there with my son Anton and his wife) spent more time than we originally programmed there buying beautiful hats, fine-typical-french tablecloths (very-very nice) and other souvenirs...on that I'm Quilty (as well) for buying a nice Stetson hat to be used in our wines routes de la France trip.
Besides those nice stores; they even had an attractive "Teddy Bear", posing in a window (see pics) with bubbles and everything, on main street
Besides our souvenirs times we found "Patisserie Gilg", which seems to be not only well known and highly after-saw, but a fantastic one and my wife couldn't resists to try their classic recipes...forgetting, at that moment, our 7:30 pm Reservations at none other that "L'Auberge de L'Il"...the prettiest set restaurant of the world and its 3 Michelin stars
Ribeauvillé's Grand Rue, as centre of attraction of La Ville itself, is a fantastic
picturesque area, not only for its olde-nice colored wooding constructions, but, on top of the village you can see-from below- those several olde Castles...which merit more time to be visited by themselves.
All in all...if you are planning to visit Alsace; besides Riquewihr and Colmar attractions, la Grand Rue at La Ville of Ribeauvillé is a MUST that you can't miss...
...or you will regret it !

These castle ruins are brilliant, the little paths up to the castle are charming and make you feel like you're stepping into time. The existing part of the castle consist maximally of it's watch that which you're able to climb quite easily. The surrounding walls are crumbling which gives you a server ofc medieval charm. I wish I could have taken my son here when he was a young boy, we'd have our own private reenactment. From the watch tower, the views over the town and surrounding vineyards are stunning.

This beautiful watchtower is a highlight of the picturesque town of Riquewihr and dominates its skyline. Set on one end of the old town, it is a good starting point to explore the old town. Though we didn't have time to go up the tower, I can imagine the nice views it must offer.
