Okama Crater

Reviewed By saikou

Absolutely gorgeous. The weather is very variable and changes quickly - the first day we went (parking at the main parking lot) had a sunny forecast but when we got there the entire mountain top was covered in thick fog and it was pouring rain so we couldn't see it at all. It was also very windy and approaching freezing in October. The next day we hiked over from the Zao Onsen Ropeway and the weather was perfect although still jacket weather. Very glad we made the second attempt because it's fantastic - the unreal color of the lake along with the alien landscape.

Miyagi Zao Eboshi Resort

A skiing resort located on the northeast ridge on Mt. Ushiroeboshi (1,681m) on the Zao Quasi-national Park. The long, panoramic skiing course that starts at 1,350m above sea level is enjoyable even for beginners. Powder snow, commonly seen on skiing grounds on the pacific side of Japan, is an appealing factor as well.
