Ani Cathedral

ANI CATHEDRAL (Saint Mary's Cathedral) FETHİYE MOSQUE It is the largest and most important temple in the center of ani ancient city.Saint Mary's Cathedral or the fethiye mosque, which was named in the Great Seljuk period, was also named as the cradle(beşik) church due to its 19th century architectural form.It was built by Katranide(Katramide)II,his wife of gagik, who was the last king of the Bagratuni dynasty. The construction of the cathedral was started in 989 by King Smbat II.Architect Trdat was commissioned for the Kadetral. In 899, a major earthquake occurred in Istanbul. Some parts of the hagia sofia church were damaged. When trdat goes to Istanbul for the dome and arch of the damaged church, the construction of the cathedral stops. When the king smbat II dies, his deputy and his brother gagik take over and the construction is completed in the early 11th century (1001-1010) by the king gagik wife Queen Katranide (Katramide). The temple built in a rocky location was not damaged by earthquakes. Local soft volcanic stones were used in the construction of the temple. At the entrance of the building, an eagle relief and the symbol of the cross can be seen above the door.On the inside of the apse, the fresco "Jesus sitting on the throne"(Hristos Entronos ) can be seen.Great Seljuk Sultan Alparslan, in 1064 Ani conquers your city. the first Friday prayer Its name was changed to "Fethiye Mosque" because it was made in the Cathedral.

Menucehr Camii

Reviewed By inflexible85 - Canakkale, Turkey

Ebu'l Menuçehr Mosque, which is my favorite building in Ani Antique City. There are various rumors about the construction style and history of this mosque, which is the first Turkish Mosque built in Anatolia. After the Seljuk Sultan Alparslan conquered Ani in 1064, he left the city's administration to Menuçehr, the son of Ebu'l Esvar, the Emir of the Şeddatlı Principality and he built this mosque while reconstructing the city. The fact that this mosque, which is said to have been built in 1072 according to some sources and 1086 according to some sources, is at the top of the slope overlooking Arpaçay and Armenia offers us an excellent view. "Bismillah" was written on the minaret, which has an octagonal structure and has the effects of Central Asian Turkish Architecture. It is reached by a 99 starirs. The Ebu'l Menuçehr Mosque is the oldest Seljuk building known and has survived until today. Note: It is very famous to be photographed from the window of the mosque where you can see the Arpaçay valley and the historical ruined bridge on it.

It was connected to the city walls which were built around the same time. It was built on a hill in a bend in the Kars River with a commanding view over the city. this great castle is accessible during the day time
