Gwanghallu Pavilion

Reviewed By thelonious22

Gwanghallu Garden is one of the most picturesque spots in Korea. Because it has been a filming location for so many tecent historical drama films (Masquerade, The Face Reader, The Throne, The Princess and the Matchmaker, and the Royal Tailor to name a few) quite easy to imagine the Joseon era noblemen taking a break in one of its pavilions or being entertained. The main pavilion Geanghallu cannot be entered but it can be admired with its photogenic surroundings that includes the stone bridge. Few smaller pavilions like Yeongjugak are open for visitors to relax in. Wonwoljeong Pavilion is used as a performance space where a short pansori performance takes place a few times a day.

Naejangsan National Park

Reviewed By StarrySea - Singapore, Singapore

Stayed in Naejangsan for 3 nights in Haniljang Motel in the 1st week of November 19 which located very near to park entrance. The peak of foliage is on 2nd week of November this year. The foliage is beautiful even though it is not at its peak. The weather is very cold in the morning that we have to wear gloves and the sky is dark at 5pm. Tourist could buy park entrance ticket at 3000won/day at the entrance and walk a short distance to a ticket booth to buy the shuttle bus tickets at 1000won/way. The bus will go to cable car station. For those who do not go to the observatory, I would suggest to walk towards the Wooden gate and up Naejangsan temples for sightseeing instead. From the temples walk back cable car bus stop and another 4km back to park entrance, towards the Naejang Information Centre. In this journey you will expect to hear local musicians singing lovely songs, see beautiful and colorful foliage, serene pavilion and few tangerine trees. A short distance outside the park entrance, there are tents where the local sell their meals. Along the roadsides there are sale of fry red bean and ginseng fritters, seasonal small tangerine and persimmon, etc. There are many restaurants but only one coffee cafe and convenience store beside 171 bus stop. At the cable car station, there is a lotteria fast food restaurant selling burger and it opens at 7am. For tourists who do not prepare for hiking I do not suggest to take one way cable car to observatory and walk down as the route down is slippery and not much to see. Overall, we had enjoyed the Naejangsan National Park very much. A must visit place during autumn in Korea.

Eunpa Lake Park

Reviewed By XamatTomax - Fort Wayne, United States

I always enjoyed walking around this area. There’s a beautiful lake with a fountain. It’s great for a solo trip with your camera, going for a stroll with someone, or taking the family out to enjoy the day. I loved walking around Eunpa during all seasons. Bundle up and enjoy the snow covered ground and trees, or bring sunscreen and enjoy the lake on a hot sunny day. My favorite time is when the weather is a little cooler and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. It’s very picturesque.

Jeonju Hanok Village

Reviewed By mennod385 - Western Cape, South Africa

If you are in Korea and miss this opportunity to visit Jeonju Hanok Village you will do yourself a disservice. Korea being a very modern country this opportunity to step into the past should not be missed. Remember though that this is a MUST see place for Koreans as well and in summer is very busy. The area with all the old buildings has a Catholic church, still in use, to the Gyeonggijeon Shrine dating back 1000 years. You can rent a Hanbok or traditional wear for the day and the roads were filled with young people dressed in these traditional garments. Every type of food is on offer and the prices are all affordable. This is a must see whilst in Korea, if you don't have the time........make the time.

Jeondong Catholic Church

Reviewed By kpiddy - Brisbane, Australia

Located on the edge of the Jeonju Hanok Village is this most impressive and distinctly different style of architecture, this Catholic church was built between 1908 and 1914. The architectural style is described as Roman-Byzantine, the rooftop has three Byzantine bell towers, it was particularly spectacular to see on dusk. The church was built to remember the Roman Catholic martyrs of the Joseon Dynasty who lost their lives on this very spot. It is listed as national treasure number 288.
