An average hotel with no A/C and terrible customer relations.

Reviewed By eunhak2022

We found out there was no A/C running once we unpacked in the room where temp was in the 80’s. When inquired about it, the response was an apologetic statement of ‘it’s not the season for the central A/C to be turned on yet’. An offer of a meager fan and a suggestion of opening the window were made. There was no effort of rectification or other peace offering from the management other than free swimming pool and sauna use. The overnight sleep was not a comfortable one due to lingering heat despite the open window and the fan. They did move the room to a lower floor upon request. It did not make much difference in terms of heat. The first room before the move by the way did not have a shower curtain. Definitely not one of the top hotels we have ever stayed in terms of resources and customer relations.

Instrumental part of a lovely Jeonju experience

Reviewed By Alyssa H

While this is one of many hanok accommodations located right within the village (and I definitely recommend staying in the village!), the service was what elevated the experience. I recommend contacting the managers ahead of time (if you don't speak Korean, by looking up choice phrases or getting a Korean-speaking friend to help you) because then they can really help you out. I was able to drop off my luggage in my room before check-in, at which point the manager also gave me a map and guided me through recommended spots to check out. I also let the manager know when I planned to leave, so I met him and he helped me to catch a taxi to get to my next destination. Do have realistic expectations of what you're getting -- it's a traditional style room, so yes, you will be sleeping on the floor! And the rooms are basically for sleeping, so they aren't huge. (There also aren't windows, so if you are claustrophobic, you might also want to reserve up a size.) The bathroom is a combined shower room with a hand-held showerhead. There is breakfast provided is light: toast, apple slices, coffee. But it has solid amenities to support you: wifi, individually-controlled air-conditioning, and shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/towels in the bathroom/shower room. And if you're in Jeonju, you will want to spend your time wandering around and not staying in your room anyhow!

Nice

Reviewed By manatch

A nice hotel with nice design features and clean rooms. I liked free quality coffee available in lobby. The only downside is that the hotel is situated in a kind of red light district with many love hotels. Every time I took a taxi and directed the driver to the hotel, he was looking at me one more time. He might have been thinking that I was going there for a hidden agenda. Taxis are readily available and you can reach the train station and downtown in 5 to 10.min at most and taxis are cheap. I'd stay there again if I come to Jeonju again.

VFM studio apartment (get one with a balcony)

Reviewed By ahhin99

From our viewpoint, this property tried hard (and mostly succeeded) to provide value-for-money accommodation in Jeonju. The studio apartment we stayed in was large enough, fully furnished and clean, with an interesting layout. We opted for a unit with a balcony, and although the view was not great, it was refreshing to step out, now and then, for some air. There was a minor bathroom issue. We were delighted to discover that our unit was equipped with a sunflower shower head. Unfortunately, every time we used it, the bathroom floor became wet and slippery. The shower drainage system, which looked elegant, did not work as intended. We requested/used for lots of floor mats. Location-wise, we appreciated the following: - A CaffeBene outlet downstairs; - Two 24-hour convenience stores just round the corner; and - Lots of eateries within walking distance in every direction (although not all may have English menus or English-speaking staff). However: - As noted by other reviewers, the hotel is in an "interesting area" (but the streets did not feel unsafe). - After we arrived at the Jeonju bus station, 2 taxis turned us down before we managed to book a ride with a nice elderly gentlemen... even after we showed the name of the hotel in Korean and displayed a map printout. Which may not necessarily be the hotel's fault, but it did raise our eyebrows (slightly). - The Jeonju Hanok Village was always a taxi ride away. That said, upon arrival in the village, the Nambu Market, Jeondong Cathedral and Pungnammun Gate are in the vicinity. During our stay, the counter staff were responsive and friendly. While things did get lost in the translation occasionally, some patience and smiles all round worked things out, most of the time. Bottom-line: BJA offered good value, but there is room for some improvements.

I don't understand the positive reviews???

Reviewed By honestlywondering

This place is highly over-rated. I don't understand the positive reviews..unkind, not helpful, arrogant breakfast staff (when I asked for more rice, the lady literally slapped a portion of rice in my bowl, breakfast not worth it, especially for being a Korean Hanok..my 10 year old Korean niece can prepare a better, more traditional Korean breakfast,THE KOREAN BREAKFAST MENU WAS TERRIBLE..the floor mats ( in Korean they are called YO) used for your sleeping experience are old, extremely thin and cheap.....the owner has to learn how to control some loud and ignorant guests, instead of sitting in his room entertaining some of his friends..when asking for suggestions it appeared that we bothered the man who was in charge....I've stayed in many types of hanoks, HOWEVER, I would suggest you take pictures of this historical hanok (location is good), AND TRY TO FIND A BETTER PLACE TO STAY. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY: TO EXPERIENCE A TRULY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE IN A KOREAN HANOK; HISTORY ISN'T EVERYTHING!

on our way from busan to seoul we had to settle down for a pit stop in this little town called jeonju, we actually wanted to stay at a hanok but we were unable to find it on google maps. so we desperately looked around town and found this little gem in the middle of nothing. dont get fooled by how many stars this hotel received, it's fairly good value in my opinion and i can recommend it + good value + unique brick design + whirpool and open shower + sink is outside the bathroom + big bed i truly have nothing to niggle about this one, so 5 stars all the way
