We used Windfall Rafting during our Family Vacation in Jackman, Maine this summer! Someone in town recommended it to us - and they certainly didn't "steer" us wrong! We had a couple of very hesitant & newbie rafters in our group and our guide (thank you Hannah!) did an excellent job keeping us all at ease - we all had a blast.

Out on the river I got a glimpse of guides from other companies - there was no comparison to the Windfall Guides - I was appalled to see how our guides from other companies were treating their groups...they were abrupt, yelled, spoke inappropriately and were just out-right rude. Where-as every staff member of Windfall was pleasant, humorous, friendly, informative and went above and beyond to make it a memorable experience.

This was one of the most well-run & organized guided tours I have ever participated in (I've done my fair share!) Thank you for the great time!

Attean Pond

Reviewed By Arty_woman69 - Port Washington, New York

Attean Pond and the Lodge are an ideal get-away for a natural, relaxing vacation. The lodge is located on an island on the Pond so you have to take a boat launch from the dock to the lodge. Each family/couple has it's own lovely cabin on the water. Meals are served in the main lodge -- breakfast and dinner -- and lunch is fresh prepared for your daily adventure on the water. It is a lovely place to relax and unwind in the middle of a pristine paradise! The swimming is divine!

Jackman Trading Post

The Post is a great little roadside shop just south of Jackman. It's a lot bigger on the inside than it appears to be from the road... they have everything from the typical touristy tshirts, hats, and postcards (they have stamps and a mailbox for pickup too) to basic hunting supplies and cold weather gear, snack, sundries, etc. Good price for gas too.
Don't forget to wave at the officer watching from the cruiser nearby.

Jackman-Moose River Valley Historical Society

Reviewed By bluedog1400 - Crestview, Florida

Mike Chasen was sitting outside enjoying the sunshine when we arrived He said the building was used as a school basketball court until the early '60s, then for a while housing fire equipment then finally bought by the historical society. They spent a lot of time and money to save the building. Now they need $100k to repair the crumbling concrete walls. They have raised $25k so far. We took an enjoyable hour looking over antiques and history of the area. Mike answered all of our questions including a POW WWII camp a few miles away for 200 German prisoners. This area was selected for its remoteness.

Coastal routes in northeast

Reviewed By Tanmouss - Oslo, Norway

Rockport, Kennebunkport, Wiscasset, Rockland, Camden... a small sample of charming villages along Route 1 Northeast. Looks like Route 1 is the address for scenic rides (Route 1 on west coast is even better!). Villages are definitely nice stops in Maine and at all times the scenery is a wonder as the coastal road offers constant beautiful scenery of the ocean and inlets. Multiple bridges give a two way sight on inlets. We did it on a 6-day road trip and my head is still full of the these beautiful sights.
