Hutchinson is the largest city and county seat in Reno County, Kansas, United States, and located on the Arkansas River. It has been home to salt mines since 1887, thus its nickname of "Salt City", but locals call it "Hutch". As of the 2010 census, the city population was 42,080.

Cosmosphere

The Cosmosphere International SciEd Center & Space Museum is a Smithsonian affiliated museum in Hutchinson, KS. Its collection includes U.S. space artifacts second only to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, and the largest collection of Russian space artifacts outside of Moscow. This unique collection allows the Cosmosphere to tell the story of the Space Race better than any museum in the world while offering fully immersive education experiences that meet the Next Generation Science Standards and introduce students to the power of wondering—asking the critical questions that lead to discovery. The Cosmosphere also features the Carey Digital Dome Theater offering documentary showings daily; experience the night sky in the Justice Planetarium; Dr. Goddard’s Lab, where visitors experience live science demonstrations daily; and featuring CosmoKids, an interactive play area for Young Explorers.

Fantastic US Space Program museum! World class museum of Space relics including Gus Grissom’s Liberty Bell 7 and Apollo 13 Command Module as well as numerous other space and aviation items. My wife and I very much enjoyed our visit there and highly recommend it! The Cosmosphere is truly a national treasure!

Reno County Museum

The Reno County Museum is focused on preserving, interpreting, and sharing the history of Reno County Kansas. We have 5 exhibit galleries and rotate exhibits on a regular basis. There is something new to see and learn often inside our museum. Our permanent outdoor exhibits include the Siegrist Claim House, Out House, and a Pioneer Jail. We are located in the heart of Downtown Hutchinson. In addition to our great exhibits, visitors can access our public Vaden Stroud Research Library, the Houston Whiteside Conference Room, and the Oodleplex! The Oodleplex is an imaginative interactive play area for children located on the Museum's second floor. Admission to the Oodleplex is $1.00 per child. The Houston Whiteside Conference Room hosts many Museum events and it's also open for public events too! You have got to stop here, they have some very unique sauces, pickles, candies, it’s a great little store in the heart of Hutchinson, you need to get, Smiths Market salsa, it’s smoky flavor and very, very hot, it is great, their fudge is to die for also. This is a great place to stop and check out.
