What to do and see in Honfleur, Normandy: The Best Museums

October 2, 2021 Giuseppe Pratt

Honfleur, a harbor in Normandy, was popular with Impressionist painters like Monet and Boudin. They found its changing light and picturesque quays inspiring—and even today, if you return to the same spot every day to take a photo, you'll find no two are the same. On Saturday, visit the town's lively market and stock up on local cheese.

Artiane Gallery

After years of touring exhibitions in Europe, America and Asia, Gallery ArTiane finally opened at its permanent location in 2000. Located in the heart of beautiful town Honfleur, it features artwork of quality, originality, and vivid figuration. Encased by historic stone walls, these contemporary works of art spread across two floors and form a dynamic dialogue. Tired of old master style still life? You are in the right place! "Tout feu, tout flamme", these letters inscribed under the gallery's name, announce the gallery's relation with art: life - movement - body, and life again. Painters, sculptors and photographers are selected each year by curator Tania Klein to refresh our permanent collection, and to be represented. Thanks to our passionate collectors and dedicated team, we are able to provide exposure for emerging artists both online and offline through exhibitions, art fairs and digital media.

Satie House and Museum (Maisons Satie)

Reviewed By NB1957

I sort of expected the museum to reflect the personality of Eric Satie and it did. It is an unusual experience and in its way quite refreshing as it is slightly off beat and all the better for that. You learn quite a bit about the man and his music as well as hearing plenty of it as you go around the museum. Not sure why but I was completely captivated by the automatic piano playing a series of pieces by him.

Musee Eugene Boudin

Reviewed By pickytweeter - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

As has been said a highly engaging eclectic collection mainly of Normandy Coast art A great find changed our ferry route into Normandy to Le Havre , instead of Caen with the specific aim of visiting here and Rouen! and neither dissapointed Especially loved the paintings by Andre Hambourg- had never heard of him and obv. Boudin and Courbet also.
