Honfleur Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Honfleur

April 8, 2018 Russell Mellin

Honfleur, a harbor in Normandy, was popular with Impressionist painters like Monet and Boudin. They found its changing light and picturesque quays inspiring—and even today, if you return to the same spot every day to take a photo, you'll find no two are the same. On Saturday, visit the town's lively market and stock up on local cheese.

Sa-Qua-Na

SaQuaNa in Honfleur is a starred restaurant in which Delphine and Alexandre Bourdas wished to put what they like, what they learned during their travels and meetings. This place finally expresses their personalities. After long months of renewal, the restaurant opened again in October 2016 in a small building just a step away from the port of Honfleur. Delphine and Alexandre Bourdas wish that the human dimension and the joy of sharing a good meal are at the heart of their restaurant.

We have visited this restaurant few months after it has been reopened following a massive refurbishment. We have booked a lunch table in advance. The interior is nice and stylish but a little sterile. Sorry to say but the food was bland, not memorable at all. We have ordered the green color code tasting menu. All dishes were beautifully presented, and that is where the story ends. Lack of flavors and imagination really tired cooking. The only dish we have both enjoyed was the pancake with truffle oil and the amuse bouche we also nice. All this was served and presented by non smiling and not attantive front of house staff, without any personal touch. No reason for us to return.

The intimate environment and attentive service werethe perfect setting for our delectable meals. The vegetables in our starters seemed like they were harvested just before they were put on our plates. The seasoning was just right to complement the underlying flavors. Our main courses were creative but not too exotic. The beef melted in the mouth and the fine fish dish had a combination of flavors that made us slow down, breath deep and just enjoy. The apple and caramel dessert was scrumptious. The host and chef took care to make sure every detail of the meal was perfect. Highly recommended!

We had made a reservation for lunch and had the fixed price menu for 28 euros. There is an appetizer, choice of starter, main course, cheese plate, and dessert. The gazpacho of vegetables with chopped shrimp and garlic was an excellent starter. The main course of salmon tournedos was delicious with a wonderful sauce. Crumble "crousti" with white chocolate mouse and variety of fruit was a good choice for dessert.
Inventive presentation and delicious flavors make for a most enjoyable meal. It is a small restaurant and best to make Reservations. [email protected]

We were disappointed. Perhaps the reviews led us to expect more than the restaurant could deliver. The foie gras was served too cold, the main dish was ordinary, but the passion mango shuffle was wonderful. It just did not meet our expectations. We chose the wine pairings-- the wines were served with the first three courses, and by the time of the cheese course and dessert we "had" to order additional wine. Bizarre. I would not return.

Located a bit outside of Honfleur proper, this restaurant was a welcome change from the French norm.
Built on this friendly couples' property, we dined outside on picnic tables. Our kids had a great time running around their yard and peeking at their horses.
Menu is very different. My son and I did one of the fixed menus; my salad was absolutely phenomenal, especially after a few days of carbs. I finished my meal with the tangine .. having traveled in Morocco I probably should have avoided, but did try it and was not wow'd. Son had the sweet and sour Turkey (he enjoyed; we were meh), hubby had the tandoori pasta (not a fan).
Dessert didn't wow either.
Bottom line here: excellent, friendly service; great surroundings; different from the French norm; gastronomic experience will greatly vary depending on your level of experience and expectation. For us it was a 3 -- we'd return if invited by friends, but we wouldn't recommend it to friends.

We dined here on a Saturday evening (Sept 16th). We had the Menu Découverte to get the broadest sampling (we were hungry). Every plating was wonderful in taste and plating. They also had a very nice, compact and reasonably priced wine list with some older bottles. The atmosphere tends to be on the contemporary side and is very warm. It is a small place and I do recommend Reservations in advance.

What a great little restaurant, away from the streets over stuffed with tourists and their gimmicky shops and over-priced restaurants. The menu here may be limited but everything is fun and delicious with great jazz playing in the background. Wines are good, service is friendly and the atmosphere is marvellous.

First meal in France was a good one. Excellent escargot and pate appetizers. Tuna main was slightly overdone. Gambas were delicious, though also slightly overdone. The recommended "apple pie" dessert a la mode was fantastic. Nice ambience, quiet, away from the crowds.

Nice tapas bar in downtown Honfleur. The owner (I guess) is very nice and really arranging.
Tapas are globally good especially hams that are quite high quality ones. Croquetas and so on are probably coming from the freezer but that's not why you go there! Carmen cake is fantastic and home made for sure!
I'll be back I'm sure!

We were told on arrival by another customer that it was the best ice cream in Honfleur .. I think my husband and kids can attest that it is indeed the best. I did have a bit of my son's coconut ice cream and I can say that it was solidly excellent. Highly recommend!
