Woods Mill Nature Reserve

A mixture of wetland and woodland habitats. Headquarters of the Sussex Wildlife Trust. Sorry no dogs, except guide dogs, as this nature reserve is a centre for environmental education.

This is a good place from which to start a walk, as the main path from the car park leads out to a public footpath through the neighbouring fields and - eventually, after crossing a road - up onto the South Downs. Some nice shady picnic tables as well. Unfortunately the cafe (in a horse box trailer!) was not open on the day we visited. That would have been the icing on the cake (and the cake as well). Extremely clean loos and plenty of Covid-19 precautions.

Despite the weather the Gardens are looking stunning and will get better until the first frosts. Walk on the paths through the flower beds with the kids and the dog, sit on the mounds and soak up the views, rest on the terrace with tea and amazing home made cake, buy plants to take some Prairie home with you, go on a course and be creative, buy a season ticket and visit 6 days a week at the most friendly place I know. Not vintage, not quirky....... simply Sussex Prairie Gardens. Just go!!!
