Dolfinarium

An unforgettable day
A visit to the Dolfinarium is an unforgettable day out for the whole family. Because how often do you get the chance to meet dolphins, take a close look at sea lions and touch sharks?

Use all of your senses
You can easily spend an entire day at Europe's largest marine mammal park. Take a stroll from the Dolfijnendelta (Dolphin Delta) – where newborn dolphins swim – to the Zeehondenzand (Seal Sand) where common seals live together with grey seals. Listen to the rowdy sea lions and see with your own eyes how enormous walruses are. At the Roggenrif (Ray Reef) you get to meet some smaller inhabitants of the North Sea. Sea bass, rainbow trout and anemones, for example. You can observe them closely and learn all about these interesting creatures. You can even touch the sharks and the rays.

 Eye to eye
Of course you get to take a close look at our marine mammals. There are eleven unique shows in which the dolphins, sea lions and walruses show you their best moves. Be amazed and moved by their extraordinary appearance!

Animal welfare first
The Dolfinarium has been around for nearly fifty years. Over the years we have done a lot of research and made a significant contribution to the protection of the animals in the wild. Animal welfare has always been and will always be our top priority in our research. We take care of our marine animals with a lot of love, passion and respect.
And it shows: the animals in Harderwijk grow (a lot) older than their congeners in the wild and every year many babies are born in our park. As the main sponsor of Stichting SOS Dolfijn we are proud that we are able to help increase the well-being of the animals.

Ondanks de lange geschiedenis van het park nog altijd een topper onder de dagjes weg. Een uitje voor het hele gezin. Despite its long history still the number 1 of Holland, when it comes to themeparcs. Really a day out for all the family!

Stadsmuseum Harderwijk

Reviewed By Topper88 - Newmarket, United Kingdom

Came across this wonderful place on a wet Sunday with friends and discovered one of the most wonderful museums we have ever visited. Located in a historic house in the centre of this beautiful town we were greeted with a genuine friendly welcome and given a guide to what we can discover within this unique building. Not only does this museum have a wonderful to story to tell about the town, it's people and its connection with the Hansa network as well as the fishing industry but it also has an amazing calendar of arts and cultural events. Although at the time when we visited they were between Exhibitions, it clearly attracts the very best and has given us reason to come back again soon.
Although many towns in Holland close up on a Sunday, if you are looking for a wonderful cultural, enlightening and enjoyable place to go then this is it.
We couldn't believe that entry was only one Euro per person. This has to be best value that one Euro could ever buy!
Thank you Stadsmuseum!

Escape Room Harderwijk

Reviewed By MartinBrentnall - Amersfoort, The Netherlands

This activity organised by the company I work for. We were split into groups and our group of seven played the "Lab X" room. This is my sixth escape room, although the rest of my team were inexperienced with Escape Rooms.
This is a very unremarkable Escape Room without much effort in the design of the puzzles, progression or narrative. The puzzles are very basic, and at least two of them are literal jigsaw-style puzzles, which are not really fun or imaginative use of time in an escape room. There is no creative use of technology as you would see in the best rooms; the majority of puzzles just involve obtaining four digit combinations to open locks, which is not very exciting. The only redeeming quality of the puzzles is a unique communication aspect for some that I haven't yet seen in other rooms.
The best Escape Rooms give players many different puzzles to solve at once, enabling members of the group to split up and work independently on solving different parts of the room. Despite allowing large teams of up to eight people, the progression in Lab X is extremely linear, as there is usually only one puzzle available to be solved at any given moment. Because of this, several people in our team of seven often had nothing to do, since everyone is trying to crowd around one puzzle. Additionally, there is also very little to find in the room, which further worsens the problem for those left out with nothing to do.
Narratively, there is nothing given beyond the introduction, although I should mention that the acting at the introduction is fun and unique. Beyond the introduction however, this is a very simple, bog-standard escape scenario. Don't expect to discover any narrative surprises here.
This escape room also has other practical issues. Hints are given on a tiny monitor in tiny font, which is physically separated from players during certain points in the game, and therefore is very difficult to read unless you have perfect vision. As I'm near-sighted, it was completely impossible for me to read it.
Furthermore, while many escape games are designed to be language-independent, Lab X relies heavily on the Dutch language, as there is heavy use of Dutch text. The introduction and hints are also given in Dutch, which meant that English members of our team had to rely on translations by the Dutch colleagues.
Overall, Lab X at Escape Room Harderwijk is easily the least impressive escape room I've played so far, with several major design flaws and comparatively little effort made compared to the best rooms. If you really want to play a good Escape Room in the Netherlands, I would highly recommend visiting The Queen in Utrecht, which is a superb room and magnitudes better than this one in every way possible.
I think it's fair to mention that my colleagues seemed to enjoy this room more than I did, but since it was their first Escape Room, I think this is mainly because they have no basis for comparison, having not experienced any better rooms.

Fam. Honings.
