Its hills hold a 10th-century temple dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya and an ancient seat of astronomy known as Navagraha, the temple of the nine planets; the small Umananda temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is on an island in the river. The area around the city contains wildlife sanctuaries, archeological ruins and a silk-weaving center.

For staying, tents and mud cottages with thrashed roof are available amidst nature. One can enjoy sitting by the campfire, listening to the sound of jackals calls. Wake up in the morning by the sound of birds chirping or in the winter, sound of dew drops falling over thrashed roof or on the ground. Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden

Reviewed By vashiboy1981

The Zoo was just awesome! Taking the vehicle to get around the place is the best way since its very pocket-friendly. The place is so vast that it's feels it never ends. Every area is marked accurate so that one knows where they are. Got to see a wide-range of animals especially the monkey family. Also the deers move about freely since the zoo is located within a jungle like area. The best scene not to miss is the monkeys that roam around freely that too at the entrance of the Zoo. It's the best Zoo ever visited.
