Salt Spring Island's Saturday Market

If the local art isn't enough to tempt you, then the local food should be! You will not find more delicious produce than from our Salt Spring farmers. Real, flavourful, beautiful, hand-picked, organic freshness is at every turn. I LOVE getting an Opetepe coffee, a gluten-free treat from one of the many food vendors, a box of perfect ground-cherries or carrots, and sitting on the grass, shoes-off, watching the marimba band and folks dancing in the sunshine. Sound hippy- dippy? It might be a little, but in a way that will make you want to join in. ;) Parking sucks though, be warned.

Salt Spring Visitor Information Centre

The Salt Spring Visitor Centre is located in the heart of downtown Ganges at 121 Lower Ganges Rd. Our knowledgeable volunteer counsellors offer a wealth of information and want to ensure you experience an unforgettable visit. Free local maps, ferry and bus schedules, and our brochure can be picked up at any time. We have free wifi and a payphone is conveniently located outside our door. Tour and local buses stop right outside our front door. There is a bicycle rack available and parking is located behind the Visitor Centre.Unfortunately our building is too old to be handicap accessible but if you visit the Chamber of Commerce office at parking lot level, a counsellor will be happy to bring information to you! Shops, galleries, restaurants, parks and more are a short stroll from the Visitor Centre. See you on Salt Spring Island!

I have gone there myself and sent ,many people there. In a gfreat location in the heart of Ganges, with a bust stop right there. Staffed almost completely by knowledgeable volunteers, many of whom are seniors with decades of Salt Spring expereince and knowledge that goes beyond tourism brochures, creating exceptional expereinces.

We have been to Ganges a number of times but this was our first opportunity to experience the Saturday market. As you would expect at any market there were many artists with work on display. What’s different here is the true craftsmanship and talent behind the works being shown. More important for us (we arrive by boat) is the great selection of locally produced fresh vegetables, bakery goods, and meats - including Saltspring Island lamb. Allow at least and hour and maybe more. Enjoy the work of talented kids who are part of the market. Leave some time for a great chowder at the Oyster. Ganges is an enjoyable destination anytime if the year or week but try to be there on a summer Saturday morning and really see the best of what’s in offer!
