Famagusta /ˌfæməˈɡʊstə, ˌfɑː-/ (Greek: Αμμόχωστος locally [aˈmːoxostos]; Turkish: Mağusa [mɑˈɰusɑ], or Gazimağusa [gɑːzimɑˈɰusɑ]) is a city on the east coast of Cyprus. It is located east of Nicosia and possesses the deepest harbour of the island. During the medieval period (especially under the maritime republics of Genoa and Venice), Famagusta was the island's most important port city and a gateway to trade with the ports of the Levant, from where the Silk Road merchants carried their goods to Western Europe. The old walled city and parts of the modern town presently fall within the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Gazimağusa District, of which it is the capital. It is also notable as the birthplace of the eponymous hero of the Renaissance proto-novel Fortunatus.

The largest former church in Famagusta, built by the French in flamboyant Gothic style, and weathered to gold by the Eastern sun and winds. The Turks added a sleek minaret, and kept the interior empty and white, doing a great service to its sleek ogival arches and columns.

I was quite shocked that they let me inside a mosque in a skirt and sleeveless top. The mosque is beautiful and you can see that it was a church before it was converted. It has water so you can refresh yourself. Take your shoes off before you enter. The wall was impressive and massive. You have to get out to take some pictures. Famagusta is a big city, with lots of history, great souvenirs and other shops where you can enjoy yourself. I totally recommend it!

Wonderful drive with amazing scenery, stop off at some of the village shops and buy carrot/apples - feeding the wild donkeys is a wonderful experience. Bring swimwear and stop at one of the beautiful beaches on the way back

We have just discovered this beach. I have one word to describe the beach itself ‘wonderful’! The facilities and restaurants around it are not too bad. I just don’t recommend you to visit it on a windy day.

Lovely beach with golden sands you can walk out to the sea for miles it's beautiful. Plenty of sunbeds and cafe areas. Very cheap worth a visit.

You enter through a small wooden gate in the outer wall and nothing prepares you for the scale of the walls surrounding the courtyard that you are in. Well documented with boards in English as you go round and some good views from the top.
