Epworth Old Rectory

Epworth Old Rectory is a particularly fine Queen Anne period house. Formerly the village Rector's home its now a museum celebrating a remarkable family whose lives changed history. A warm welcome awaits at this family home which 300 years ago was the home of the most remarkable family. Samuel and Susanna Wesley lived here with 10 children, two of whom, John and Charles, went on to found the Methodist movement that spread throughout Britain and eventually around the globe. Let us tell you how Susanna raised and educated her family in her 'methodical' way, how Samuel ran his parish, of their joys & sorrows over their living and dying children, of the trials and tribulations of life in an isolated rural community and their remarkable resilience and insight. Here in the Old Rectory we have a collection of objects once owned by the Wesley's, memorabilia and period furniture, all displayed in period room settings to give you a feeling of a real life family home and gardens.

I visited The Old Rectory yesterday with my family for my mum's birthday and we loved it! The staff and volunteers were absolutely lovely, and our guide Phil was very informative and answered any questions we had. I was fascinated about Susanna Wesley, someone of whom I knew little about. I would have liked more information on John & Charles Wesley but I can't complain about that as I already knew the fundamental facts about them. I would definitely visit again. On another note we all felt perfectly safe and comfortable with the covid restrictions in place, all distanced and measures in place to protect us and keep us safe. Couldn't have been better really.
