Weald of Kent Golf Club

Reviewed By Ellwen - Cambridge, United Kingdom

Visit friends for a round of golf. Local course to them so didn't know about it beforehand. £30 for our round teeing off before 8 on a Saturday. Once the fog cleared and the sun came out the place looked great. The course was well looked after. Having not played for a while I found it fairly forgiving, suitable for players of all ability. After the round we stopped in the clubhouse for some food. A beer and burger for around £15. Servered quickly and very tasty.

This flight was the second purchased from Aero Legends, our previous jaunt was the short flight in their DH Devon to Leeds Castle and back to Headcorn. This time it was a rare experience, again in the DH Devon, but escorted (if that’s the correct word) by a Sprifire and Hurricane, to the Kent coast at Caple-le-ferne and Dover. The flight was smooth passing Ashford and following the rail lines to the coast, a navigation aid used 70 years previously. Circling the Battle of Britain Memorial at Caple on both the Port and Starboard sides so the passengers could acquire closeup photos of the BoB winners. For the return to Headcorn we were formated on by a NA Harvard acting a as a photoship for aire to air shorts of the Devon Spitfire ans Hurricane. For this reason our flight was a wee bit longer..... The pilots of the planes strive to provide a stable platform for filming and the ‘attacking’ aircraft swoop and sweep by holding formation of a few feet away from eager camera lenses. Since our visit in 2017 there have been radical improvements to the facilities at Headcorn. Parking was free, if you pick the right weekend there are often other events at the airfield. Well recommended for a special birthday or treat.

Headcorn Aerodrome Pleasure Flights

Whether as a gift for a friend or relative or as an introduction to flying, the first step to take is to arrange a trial flying lesson. This involves a thorough briefing by the instructor followed by the flight, during which you will be given as much time at the controls as possible. The instructor will carry out the take-off and will then demonstrate the effects of controls on the aircraft, involving turning as well as climbing and descending. Following this you will be given control of the aircraft and will be flying until the end of the allocated time when the instructor will land the plane. If you decide to proceed with your private pilots licence this time will count towards your required flying hours.
