Forvie National Nature Reserve

Reviewed By 581leew

Forvie is an amazing nature reserve with a huge variety of wildlife and habitats. One of the main attractions is the Seal haul-out which can be found at the end of the reserve. The beach the seals are on is designated by Marine Scotland making it an offence to intentionally or recklessly harass them. That is why the reserve requests they are view from the other side of the river on Newburgh beach where the won't be disturbed. Repeated disturbance by visitors on Forvie has a serious impact of Seals ability to rest, moult and breed on the reserve. This is why they are legally protected from being prevented from doing it. Ythan Seal Watch is an online group based on Newburgh beach which monitors the Seals and visitors who disturb them. The point of the signs and mapped routes on the reserve is to protect the wildlife and habitats there. It is extremely disappointing that a small number of visitors to Forvie continue to ignore this legal advice and view the Seals from the beach they are on causing serious disturbances to the colony. That is what we now tackle disturbances in a very public way. Please always respect wildlife and follow all signs, maps and advice on the reserve. It is also extremely frustrating for other visitors enjoying the Seals from the other side of the estuary on Newburgh. There is no information on the Forvie reserve to advise visitors to view the Seals from there. Visitors have right of responsible access. Part of that is following all the information and advice in the car-park when visitors arrive at the waterside car-park.

Haddo House

An elegant mansion house with stunning late Victorian interiors. Noted for its fine furniture and paintings, Haddo also has a terraced garden leading to the Country Park with lakes, walks and monuments. The experience at Haddo House is enriched by the National Trust for Scotland Tearoom and Gift Shop in the Stables courtyard.

Owned by the Gordon family for centuries this house was redone in Georgian style then extensively remodeled as a Victorian building in the late 19th century. There is amazing artwork and furniture in the house. There is a collection of beautiful china. As Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed at this property there are beds and wardrobes made especially for them on display. An interesting and unique house.

Haddo House & Country Park

My wife and I regularly go here for a stroll round the grounds. I have mobility problems and find that this park offers a variety of walks which suit my capabilities. I am pleased to see that the majority of visitors are adhering to the government guidelines as regards social distancing. This makes our visits so much less stressful. For anyone in this area suffering pandemic stress, I would recommend a visit to Haddo House Country Park.

Really enjoyed our afternoon visiting the reindeer. The woman who owns them was friendly and happy to tell us about each one of them and some interesting reindeers facts. Great thing to do to get into the Christmas spirit.

BrewDog DogTap & DogWalk Brewery Tour

Every brewery deserves a tap room, and DogTap serves up the freshest BrewDog beer you can possibly imagine - made only metres away! With ten taps, our onsite bar opened in 2014, and sits in the shadow of our giant external fermenters, separated from the brewkit by a single glass door. What better way to enjoy BrewDog beer than in the place it was created; where you can smell the hops emanating from your glass and the brewery at the same time? But, wait there's more... The DogWalk Brewery Tour! The DogWalk not only takes in the original brewhouse from our previous tour but now includes our epic new expanded site 3 brewhouse, Lone Wolf distillery, the mind blowingly spacious warehouse, awesome packaging lines and even a cheeky little venture through the HQ offices. All things that have been mysterious to the general public and rarely seen.....until now! Tours should only be available as follows: Monday - Friday at 4pm and 6pm. Saturday & Sunday at 12 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm Pricing for our brewery tours are £15 per person and last approx 90mins with 4 amazing interactive tastings along the way.

Adding on the Dogwalk to the AGM the day previously it was great to see where all the good stuff comes from. Mark our guide was excellent, lots of great info, always ready to answer questions, and made the trip a great laugh with other likeminded craft beer drinkers......the bar is a good size with usual bar food available, and Overworks was worth the visit to sample the good stuff coming out of there now!

My girls and I love The Chocolate Bar we can't wait for it to open again. The girls love choosing their chocolate characters from the vast selection and they make the best chai lattes around! The staff are always friendly and welcoming and its our favourite cafe in Ellon :)
