Designed and built by Roger Greatrex of Knightly Engineering and opened in 1993. Hilcote Valley Railway is a 7 1/4 inch gauge railway. The Locomotive is a petrol hydraulic pulling 3 carriages. Track length is approx 1/4 mile.

Surprisingly long train journey including a small lake (large pond?) and past some of the animals from the nature reserve. Only costs a couple of quid. Kids love it. You’ve also got fletchers garden centre and gentleshaws wildlife centre. You can even get your car washed there!

I understand that The Star is recently under new ownership, but previously we visited as a couple and with children, grandchildren and friends - and were never disappointed. We found the atmosphere friendly and noticed several local people in the bar (always a good sign). Also, the food was good quality pub food and pleasantly served. Well behaved dogs were a pleasing extra.

It is an excellent stay fantastic place. Attention to detail is fab. Especially the birthday banners. Loving staying in the George Michael room. Massive shower xx
