Sporveien T-Banen

I travel with T-banen everyday for work and also on my free time - it is seldom delays (at least lately ; ) - departures are frequent and connections between t-bane and bus/trains/trams are good. Reccomend to use the "ruter reiseplanlegger" which will give you excellent suggestions on how to get easily from A-B using public transport in the Oslo area

The Bergen Railway

Experience one of Europe’s most beautiful train journeys. The Bergen Line is the scenic mountain track to the fjords.

In hindsight, this might have been a trip better done in the Spring or Summer, mainly because when there has been a lot of snow everything is white. Where there would be glistening blue lakes and green landscape, there is no delineation since the lakes are frozen and covered in snow, as is the land. Having said that, still a great experience with some friendly co-travellers and comfortable seating in Komfort class with free tea and coffee. Note that in 2020 all Komfort class carriages are being replaced with a new Pluss carriage which has upgraded facilities and at-seat power. I might just have to go back in the Summer!

Oslo-Fergene

You simply just take the route B1 from the city hall and experience the beautiful Oslofjord. This is probably one of the cheapest activities in Oslo...

I downloaded the App prior to setting off and bought my tickets on the app. Each journey is a single and it loads on the app. From there it is easy to put it into your iPhone wallet, the ticket is valid for 90 days. The app displays train times and platform number; at busy Oslo Central Station that made it quick and easy to find. The Airport station is well signposted, simply select your ticket and scan the barcode before entering the platform, it is worth knowing that on the return journey to the airport you scan the barcode when you arrive at the airport after leaving the train. I love the simplicity of the system, the airport is a long way out from the city centre and this is a great way of travelling at a reasonable cost. Trains are about every 10 minutes and travel time is about 30 minutes, the train is comfortable and quiet and you also get the opportunity to see the countryside outside the city.

Use this station to get to and from the airport in about 20 minutes and during your stay in Oslo, patronize many of the restaurants which all serve fresh food, good portions, at reasonable prices.
