Thorpe Woodlands Adventure Centre

We had an impromptu family climbing session with Mike who calmly and professionally encouraged us and coached us as we climbed pine trees 20m high and scaled climbing walls before stepping off of a 10m high platform! (All rigged up to harness’ of course)! We would highly recommend Mike as an activity leader. He was great fun and very laid back and brilliant with our three kids aged 8, 6 and 4. He allowed us the freedom to have the most fun we’ve had as a family whilst somehow feeling like part of our family! Thanks Mike for such an exhilarating and fun couple of hours climbing at the centre. We can’t wait to come back!

The Meare

Never more than 3 feet deep the Meare is the ideal place for children of all ages to explore and have their own adventures. A wide range of boats are available including dinghys (generally suitable for one to two people), larger rowing boats, punts, sailing boats, canoes (for 2 or 3 people) and kayaks (one person).

There is so much to love about The Meare; whether you like a bit of kayaking or want to have a romantic rowing boat for two, or take a family and moor up at some of the cute little jetties, this is a really enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours (currently they are limiting to one hour due to COVID-19). The Meare is bigger than you might think, and there are lots of channels to explore. Personally, I love getting a rowing boat with someone else in the family rowing, and I can just lie back and enjoy the tranquillity of the dragon flies darting about the reeds. Buy some oats from The Meare cafe to feed the ducks and swans. You need a bit of imagination to find joy in the little buildings at the landing points (lots of duck poo and spider's webs) but if you can see past that, it is a great adventure.

Our 5 year old loved it. Lots of obstacles to climb, run and jump all over. 2 mazes, both very good. One of the most fun crazy "golf" courses I've been on lately. Throw in the tractor rides and friendly staff, it's a great break from all the arcades.
