J. Albert Bauer Provincial Park

Great place for day hikes. Entering the park was a little confusing. When turning into Limberlost Rd. from District Road 8 you'll pass a few signs indicating you've entered the park. When you see the trail end of Solitaire trail, go down another quarter km or so and that is where the check-in booth and main parking lot is. I hiked the trails around Solitaire Lake, Turtle Lake and Clear Lake in about 5hrs at a really relaxed pace and admiring the surroundings. I would not recommend doing Solitaire Lake in reverse because you don't get the reward of seeing the lookout at the end, plus that would mean the hardest part of the hike is done at the beginning.

Oxtongue River-Ragged Falls Provincial Park

This is a short trail that leads to a set of rapids and a waterfall. Although it is not long, you do have to scramble up hills and over rocks and roots to get there. But it is worth the effort! Very scenic, especially with the fall colours. Hang onto your kids because there is lots to trip over.
