What to do and see in Dusseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia: The Best Sightseeing Tours

June 19, 2021 Oliva Fomby

The capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dusseldorf is a regional economic powerhouse straddling the banks of the Rhine River. Altstadt is not just Dusseldorf's lovely old town, but also where the city's nightlife is based and where Altbier, its native dark beer, is plentiful. Dusselforfians take their beer seriously. Königsallee (Ko to the locals), Dusseldorf's famous shopping street, has many high-end stores. And the Museum Kunst Palast has one of the Rhineland's best art collections.

Carl was very knowledgeable and gave us loads of insights. We visited 3 different wineries that all had something unique to offer. Carl tailored the tour to what we wanted but also inspired us to try alot of different blends that were amazing. We tasted a total of 52 different wines!! Snacks and even more wine was provided in between the stops. We had great day and would definitely call him again when we go back to the area for some more amazing German wines!

My wife and I like Segway tours of a city. You get the guide and can move around pretty quickly and cover a lot more distance than walking. Plus - you're enjoying the elements and not stuck in a van or bus. He pointed out the beautiful Rhine park area on both sides of the Rhine. The one on the West Side is used as a buffer for an overflow of water which happens frequently. As a result, that portion of park land can be underwater. During the summer, it’s back to normal so we traversed plenty of area in that park while our guide pointed out many things of interest along the way. We finished our tour at an old brewery that served Altbier which Dusseldorf is famous for. Great tour and great guide.

Martin Luther is NOT the same historical figure as MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr. Germany is not the same nation as the US. Martin Luther was the great GERMAN reformer of the 1500s. Martin Luther King Jr. was the great civil rights American reformer of the 1960s. I keep trying to help this organization, but they don't seem to worry about trivia like historical facts.

The tour was very nice. We drove 3 hours to visit Cologne and our 1st thing to do was this. We bought online tickets to save time. We had an extremely hard time finding it because of construction and one way streets. We finally found a parking deck but we had quite a long walk to get there so we were rushed to get out of the car and get going. Half way there we realized my husband forgot his mask in the car. If we went back to get it we would miss the boat. We were hoping to find a place to buy one on the way or buy one on the boat. We did not find a place on the way there. When we arrived at the boat at 10:27 for the boat to leave at 10:30, the person who greeted was extremely rude about my husband not having a mask. He fussed at him like my husband was a child. After we got on the boat, we asked for directions to get to the upper deck. This employee was as rude as the first. We are new in Germany but have visited several places. Everyone has been extremely nice at the other places so I was shocked at the rudeness of the people in the service industry in Cologne.

I travelled from Koblenz to Bingen, it took 6 hours one way. The boat cruised very slow and although I get that this is meant to be a romantic cruise, I feel that the ship could cruise faster. If the experience was 6 hours return then I would have probably had been more pleased.
