Hierapolis is an ancient city of the Roman Empire. There you can see old graves, an old church, bath, the old city gate and and the beautiful old teather. I recommend you to start your visit on the North Gate and come walking through the ruins, but they also have a shutter service if you do not want to walk. Go with comfortable shoes because you will have to walk around 1,5 or 2km if you start in Northen Gate.

What a once in a lifetime experience to walk barefoot up a calcium mountain through puddles and ponds of the clearest water. At the top we splurged and paid the 100 lr price to swim in Cleopatra's pool which was amazing. A walk through the well kept ruins turned up lots of pottery (which of course we didnt take) and even a pit viper (which we also didnt take).

Karahayit

About 10km from Pamukkale Travetines is the tranquil little village of Karahayit. It basically has one long main street closed for traffic where you can walk and discover a variety of little shops , selling all kinds of products from fresh produce to clothes and linen. Also a variety of places to eat something. At the end of the road is the thermal springs where there are benches to sit on and little tea shops. It is a lovely experience to walk in the pools with the hot water. No entrance fee.You can get a mini bus from Pamukkale or Denizli (26km). I can highly recommend a visit to this lovely village.
