Me and my family were on a trip to the Lake District and staying in Ambleside, which is a very nice town overall, and most of the time was climbing mountains and such like. However, on our last day, it was raining hard, but we still wanted to do something and this climbing wall had caught our eye. Located above a climbing shop at the bottom of the hill our house was on, it was situated perfectly for a quick rainy walk to the place and the same back. When we got there, my dad, my two sisters and I (my mum stayed at home) were met by our very entertaining and enthusiastic climbing instructor, George. And by George, he was amazing, a perfect balance of help and playful support. After finding the correct size of climbing shoe, which could be rented out at a very reasonable price considering the amount they helped once on the wall, we were immediately taken into the bouldering room, and taught the basics of climbing walls and then took part in challenges. The best thing was, it didn’t matter how good you were as there were challenges that suited everyone. Then we were taken into the impressive climbing wall room, and those walls were high! After a quick briefing of the harnesses and pulley system we were ready to go. There was an easier wall and a harder wall. Me and my dad started on the harder wall (as we were similar weights) and I was climbing while he was belaying (controlling my rope and keeping me from dying). I reached the top first try, but don’t let that fall you, I’ve climbed before and it wasn’t easy by any means! After coming down, George then challenges me to do the wall only using green handholds, and that time the wall beat the man. I just couldn’t do it. But it was very fun to try. Then we all rotated and my dad was climbing while I belayed him. He didn’t do as well as me as he is scared of heights. But when we switched to the easier wall, after some supportive words before he started and some while he was on the wall, meant he did manage to reach the top! He was VERY happy when he came down. As I had done well on the hard wall, George just set me hard challenges on the easier wall and I enjoyed myself immensely just trying to figure out how to beat them. Once the climbing shoes were off and bid fair well to George, we went and had a quick bite in the cafe above the wall, which had a viewing window which allowed an easy view of the wall and those on it, and some parents were sitting up there watching kids of their own doing it, and I found it fun to marvel at those who looked like professionals, jumping up and down the wall with ease. Afterwards, when we got back to the house I collapsed on a chair with aching arms and legs, but very proud of what I’d done. All in all, an excellent experience every wall I attempted, and am looking forward to doing it again next year (hopefully).

An excellent facility for young, old, experienced or novice climbers. Very friendly atmosphere, staff and other users only too happy to help you figure routes out. The routes are changed regularly so little chance of getting bored with the same climbs. The cafe is cheap and cheerful. I’m a regular visitor, once or twice per week.

We had a lovely weekend stay at the Wild Boar Inn in September and had pre-booked for a mix of Clay Shooting, Archery and Axe-throwing for our group of adults. Unfortunately due to one of Mike's instructors having a serious road traffic accident immediately prior to our arrival Mike had to cancel the archery element. [Steve, glad to hear that you're on the mend and hope you get back to full fitness soon.] Those who were going to do archery were offered a transfer across to the other activities by Mike, but they chose to have a long-lie and a refund instead. What a bad decision, because they missed-out on a fantastic, fun-filled brilliant morning where the rest of us had a great time shooting and throwing axes. Mike is a superb natural instructor/coach with a super friendly encouraging style that helped every member of our group of 6 adults to actually hit more clays than we missed: the man is a genius. He guarantees that he can teach anyone to hit a clay during his session - and the man was true to his word - no matter how inept we all thought we were and how inexperienced and un-skilled we thought we were, Mike was able to draw out the best in us and help us achieve our goals. Everyone in our group came away enthusing about his lovely friendly personality, his skills in regards to clay shooting and axe-throwing and how his professionalism shone tnrough in every way that he inter-acted with us. From a personal perspective I could not believe how easily he managed to get me - a 100% right-handed person who just happens to have a significant left eye dominance - to shoot, and HIT, the clays left-handed, when I was absolutely useless shooting right-handed. I'll say it again, the man is a genius, with such a lovely personality. We can also thoroughly recommend the Axe Throwing from the list of events that Mike offers. We progressed from Angel Axes through to the bigger and heavier Hand Axes and everything was done so brilliantly and with such good humour that any initial safely fears that some members of our party had at the start were gone very quickly. We had a marvellous fun-filled morning and really enjoyed everything that Mike offered in the way of advice and positive encouragement and can only say that he is a marvellous coach/instructor with a range of events that will appeal to everyone. I fully recommend Mike's company for clay shooting and for axe-throwing, and to be honest, if his other activities [which unfortunately we were not able to enjoy on the day] are handled similarly then I'm sure everyone will enjoy those too. A fantastic day's fun - to be recommended for all.........

We have done a few escape rooms and we thought we’d pop in during a rainy afternoon. Comparing to others we have done, these rooms are absolutely among the best we’ve done. We did the Frankenstein Monster themed room. It was so well set up, with amazing design and fun puzzles to figure out. Also, gave the right amount of hints and we knew if we needed it, we could ask! We loved it so much we came back to do the Casino room, which was again a brilliant room with great creativity and made us feel very submersed in the experience! Highly recommend!
