Askeaton Friary

This historic friary was used from the start of the 15th century through 1714.

Reviewed By JLorKen - Brisbane, Australia

My grandfather was born near Askeaton, so I was interested to see the town and area. A local pointed us towards the Tourist information centre, a quaint little house where the delightful Sandra is waiting to help you enjoy the town. Sandra put us in touch with Tour Guide extraordinaire Anthony Sheehy. What a brilliant passionate guide. He made the old ruins of the Friary come alive. You could picture the friars making bread, saying mass and praying in the cloisters. This is a lovely little town which hasn't been quite discovered by the tourists yet as Adare has. Definitely worth a visit.
