Went last night and had an unforgettable experience! If you haven't been to see Kynren yet, you are missing an incredible spectacle- made all the more amazing as the whole show depends on incredible, selfless volunteers, Everything, from booking to leaving the car park- still buzzing from what we had witnessed- was well organised and seamless. Everyone we met, from the carpark attendants to the marshals and cast, were professional and pleasant and it was very obvious how proud they were to be associated with the production. The show itself was breath-taking-the effects, music and of course, the wonderful cast, (who evidently enjoyed themselves as much as we did) made it a truly moving and unique experience which was over far too quickly! Please do yourselves a favour, do not miss out- go and see it!

Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral welcomes non-flash visitor photography. We have been a place of worship, welcome and hospitality for almost one thousand years. We rely on donations, and we suggest you give £3 per person to support the Cathedral's future. Located at the heart of the Durham UNESCO World Heritage Site, Durham Cathedral is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Europe. Built in 1093, the Cathedral is famous as the Shrine of St Cuthbert and the resting place of the Venerable Bede. Durham Cathedral also boasts the most intact surviving set of medieval monastic buildings in the UK. These spectacular spaces house Open Treasure, a world-class visitor experience which reveals the remarkable story of Durham Cathedral and its incredible collections through temporary and permanent exhibits for visitors of all ages. Durham Cathedral was second best place I'd a chance to visit during my short trip around north-east England. The Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and St Cuthbert of Durham is magnificent example of late Romanesque architecture with Gothic features incorporated here and there, that created harmonious whole. I would say, that Durham's Cathedral is fine example of transition form from late Romanesque style to the new, Gothic style. Construction of cathedral started in 1093, and took several decades, Stone edifice was erected in place of much smaller and humbler Anglo-Saxon wooden church. In thirteen century cathedral was already in need of repairing. Along with those necessary works, cathedral's expansion has progressed. From three towers that cathedral has acquired that time, the central one was damaged by lightning and then was rebuilt in 15th century. Thanks to new techniques developed during Medieval period cathedral was equipped with new rose and pointed arch windows characteristic for newborn architectural style that was taking over Europe, namely, Gothic. In 17th century cathedral was used as makeshift prison after the Battle of Dunbar. The prisoners, kept in inhumane conditions, destroyed much of the woodwork. These damages were partly restored in second half of 17th century by Bishop John Cosin. Works carried out in 18th and 19th centuries considerably altered cathedral's character. Much of the outer stone work of the cathedral was smoothed off and most of the Chapter House was demolished. Cosin's wooden organ screen was removed. During Victorian restoration Cathedral's central tower was refurbished, also new marble choir screen and pulpit in the Crossing were added. 20th century brought along with it restoring the Shrine of St Cuthbert behind the High Altar. Current, 21st century witnessed some more changes that took place in cathedral's interior. Two altars in Nine Altars Chapel were re-dedicated and new painting and sculptures were placed there. The Durham's Cathedral is a must see for everyone who's roaming around north-east England. What's made the greatest impression on me, were in the first place massive, Romanesque columns, and omnipresent arches. The Cathedral has unique atmosphere, and the play between the light and the shadow within its walls is truly amazing. Its exterior is no less impressive. One of the best cathedrals I'd ever seen. Period.

High Force Waterfall

High Force is one of the most impressive waterfalls in England. The River Tees has been plunging into this gorge for thousands of years but the rocks it reveals are far more ancient – with origins dating back over 300 million years! THE EXPERIENCE From its rise as a trickle, high on the heather covered fells at the top of the North Pennines, to the top of the whin sill rock at Forest-in-Teesdale, the River Tees steadily grows and gathers pace, then it suddenly and spectacularly drops 21 metres into the plunge pool below. A gentle and pretty woodland walk leads you to view this spectacular sight at the base of the falls. OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY High Force is surrounded by the stunning countryside of Upper Teesdale and is situated in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A variety of animal and plant life can be seen at High Force throughout the seasons, from a vast array of wildflowers, ferns and towering trees, to roe deer and rabbits.

We visited with a dog and five-year-old granddaughter. Put off by reviews re parking at High Force, we parked at Low Force and walked the 1.5 miles along the river. It’s a lovely walk with good paths (a bit rocky in places) and we had a great time spotting butterflies and wild flowers. High Force is truly awesome! Hold onto little hands though - there are no guard rails.

PLEASE NOTE MY LAST REVIEW SAID Ramside this was in correct. On arrival at ROCKLIFFE HALL GOLF CLUBHOUSE,, Darlington We were greeted with a very welcoming smile from a member of staff noting our Reservation then escorted to our table. Seasonal Cocktails were made, and Ben explained the structure and story, which was a wonderful touch. We had 3 young children in our party of 9!! Colouring pencils and paper were instantly provided which was a lovely thought. The starters of half pint of Prawns and Cauliflower Soup servings that we had were excellent. The mains of Beef, Pork, & Chicken were succulent and veg, good and hot. Struggled to find room for desert but the Teacake bread & butter pudding was gorgeous. The children menu portions were enjoyed by the little people. Our compliments to the Chef & kitchen staff. From presentation to through service superb.  Finally the whole experience was a magical day out as this was our pre - Xmas gathering. Our sincere thanks to front of House team for making it a special occasion xx Definitely 5 star, well done guys.  Regards David and Delia

Visited with my husband whilst up North. Living in Essex we have not found a spa down South that comes anywhere close to Seaham Hall. I would also like to add that I think Rockliffe Hall could learn a lot from Seaham Hall spa too. The spa is beautifully appointed, clean and spacious. The girl who met us at reception had a beaming smile on her face and kept us informed from arrival to starting our spa experience. We arrived a tad early and this did not seem a problem whereas at other spas they make you wait until the exact time! Attention to detail is superb from snacks and water in the Zen room to getting lemon sorbet after a treatment. We have stayed in The Four Seasons in Bali and both commented how much Seaham Hall spa reminded us of this from the decor and ambience to the extremely high customer care and consideration. Well done seaham Hall.

I came here with my mum on the 31st October. We came for the spa and dine package and it was absolutely lovely! There is a lot of lovely facilities here like outdoor heated pools, indoor heated pools, hot tubs, saunas etc. They also have lovely smoothies too! The staff here were very lovely and helpful. The towels on the chairs were always folded neatly by staff which I thought was good attention to detail! The food was also good at the fusion restaurant, I am personally not a fan of curries and things so I didn’t get a main course, but we had the chicken parcels and the vegetable spring rolls which were amazing! And my mum had the mushroom wrap for a main. And I had french fries which were very nice! Overall, we had a great experience and we would definitely return here ???? I’ve only took pictures of the food and the restaurant! My photo of the fries is so blurry so I haven’t added it????
