This was our first time in Tamarindo and first time at this church. Great sermon, great new building, friendly congregation and pastor teaches from the Bible. Perfect! We're here for a few more weeks and this will be our church while we're here.

Great feeling to say hi to la Madre de todos los Costarricenses, no matter where we are. Each trip to Costa Rica if possible we visit la basilica, is like refueling our Faith for the mother de los Ticos y Ticas.

Catedral de la Mercedes

Reviewed By redeco - Warren, United States

The story goes that the original cathedral burned to the ground in the mid 19th century, so parishioners rebuilt using pre-fabricated steel plates purchased in Belgium. The rust-red church is completely made of these plates with white filigree decorative elements. The interior is whitewashed which enhances the feeling of spaciousness. The white marble main altar is stunning. Many shrines and statues are objects of devotion for the faithful here. Overall, the cathedral is simply decorated and there is a sense of peace here. It doesn't take too long to visit. Enjoy!

Santiago Apostol Parish Ruins

Reviewed By LauraBartolomeo - New York City, United States

The parish ruins located off Playa Mayor in Cartago is a beautiful landmark of the old Costa Rican capital of Cartago. It has been transformed from ruins to a beautiful public park with very nice gardens and art surrounding. The park is not always open to the public so check in advance schedules. A great spot to stop when visiting Cartago, worth 15-30 mins to admire the architecture and gardens.
