What to do and see in Cornwall, England: The Best Paint & Pottery Studios

July 23, 2021 Nicolette Lion

Cornwall is the extreme southwestern peninsula of England. It has the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain and it is one of the sunniest areas in the UK. With picturesque villages, Celtic ruins, light blue waters, gardens and parks and unique architecture it certainly is among the most scenic areas of England. Home of many events and festivals and the land of Cornish pasty, it is definitely worth visiting.

The Kitchen Front Studio

Absolutely wonderful afternoon spent learning about the history of Bude. Having visited the shop in the past, we signed up for the Friday afternoon local history talk. The proprietor, Clair, spent a lot of time interviewing locals about what happened during the war years, and shares some amazing stories of what happened during those years - most notably "when the Americans came". I won't share any spoilers but it was riveting - true social history - and our kids (12 and 10) loved it too. The fee included a very generous WW2 inspired tea - including spam and corned beef sandwiches (as well as ham and cheese) - as well as cakes made using authentic recipes from the period (as well as cakes made using far too much butter and sugar...) I can't speak highly enough of this place - absolutely magic.

I had a fab 3 hour painting experience with Jeanni on Mawgan Porth beach. Jeanni is a truly inspirational teacher who is so willing to share her wealth of knowledge so generously. Her unique, fun teaching style made painting look so simple and doable even for a complete novice like me. She has inspired me to explore painting further and I'm looking forward to our next class. Thank you Jeanni! If you are in the area do book a class with her!

I popped in here one morning with my husband and youngest daughter. We all absolutely loved it. There’s so much beautiful art. We ended up accidentally spending £150 on some gorgeous glass art for our bathroom. We got off lightly as we could easily have spent more! I can’t stop thinking about the pirate and mermaid black and white pictures, but can’t remember the artist. Although we spent quite a lot, there was art for every budget. In the glass shop, there were lovely rainbow window hangers for a few pounds. The guy behind the counter in the glass shop was really friendly, talking to us about the unfortunate explosion in the restaurant above the day before. Would definitely visit again.
