What to do and see in Cardiff, Wales: The Best Gay Clubs & Bars

May 15, 2022 Janette Largent

The Welsh capital may have begun its life as a Roman fort, but it's since become a bustling city. Where the fort once stood, Cardiff Castle has held court since the 11th century. It remains a central presence in the city, now full of lively art and music venues, hip boutiques, fun bars and modern hotels. Even with so many new and exciting things to see, the National History Museum is still the most visited attraction in Wales. Don't be the only visitor who plays hooky!

The Golden Cross

A popular gay bar with a friendly, diverse clientele.

Reviewed By Willdoceras - Cardiff, United Kingdom

My partner and I regularly come to the Golden Cross (2-3 times per week). The staff are always friendly, courteous, polite but with just the right amount of sass to make you laugh. The venue is extremely safe with social distancing measures, lots of staff on hand, and a fantastic app for table bookings and ordering drinks. Nothing is too much trouble for Baroness Mary Golds, Joanne Bumme, or Dr Beverly Ballcrusher (the hostesses). They are very accommodating and will do their best to help. The drinks are fantastic and a very reasonable price. This is our favourite pub in Cardiff and we love coming here - the bar staff, landlord and drag queens do an amazing job to make the Golden Cross the 5* venue it truly is. <3
