What to do and see in California, United States: The Best Jogging Paths & Tracks

October 21, 2021 Flossie Demartino

California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

Bluff Trail

Great ocean views from a nice level walking trail. Most of the trail is level ground but sections are level wooden walk. Placed throughout the trail are great benches made with driftwood pieces that provide great views of the coastline. We leisurely walked on the clearly marked trail and and enjoyed the views of the coast, surf and sealions playing in the surf.

William Land Park is a Sacramento gem. We have been sheltering-in March 13th. We had to get out and WLP was a wonderful refuge. The flowers were in bloom, people were walking and practicing social distancing, kids were running and playing. About half adults were wearing masks??? There are picnic tables across the way but there was signage "Do Not Use" Dam this pandemic! I just live this park.

McKinley Park, is set in a premiere neighborhood in the heart of Sacramento! Best choice for a local picnic or event involving a fairly large crowd-approximately 1000+ or perfect for a romantic couples lunch date by the pond with the ducks and geese. Many engaged couples locate their wedding ceremony at the rose garden. And for the sports minded-tennis, basketball and soccer all blend together during the week. And another well known fact: Best local place for a short jog with your dog or while pushing your infant secured in their specialized jogging carriage! And last but not least the Clunie library and even room. Book your local event here-they will be well attended!

Lower American River

This area offers challenging long distance runs through dirt paths and over sloping terrain.

Reviewed By steverR2157ZV - Roseville, United States

The American & Sacramento Rivers converge at Discovery Park, just North of downtown Sac. The Sacramento is fast moving and muddy but where to go to ski or Jetski. The American conversely is clear, flat water and slowly meanders down to the Sac River. About 3/4 of a mile or so upstream, the river shallows and boats are limited to 5mph. Upstream from there is great fishing for Salmon, some steelhead and chad. Millions of Salmon spawn up at the fish hatchery (home for them) near the Nimbus dam. Downstream from the speed limit is calm flat water the hundreds of boats cruise around on, party and people watch. Wildness does ensue. A few, to many boats will tie together creating a party island and the music cranks up. Lot O Fun.

Friend and I walked the Crystal Springs/Dean trail in early July mid-week during pandemic. Easy parking, restrooms, smooth extremely well marked trails, gorgeous trees of many types and peaceful isolation. We met many parties (and a horse) and all were very respectful regarding face masks.
