October 14, 2021 Chanda Heide

Brittany (/ˈbrɪtəni/; French: Bretagne [bʁətaɲ] ( listen); Breton: Breizh, pronounced [bʁɛjs] or [bʁɛχ]; Gallo: Bertaèyn, pronounced [bəʁtaɛɲ]) is a cultural region in the northwest of France, covering the western part of what was known as Armorica during the period of Roman occupation. It became an independent kingdom and then a duchy before being united with the Kingdom of France in 1532 as a province governed as if it were a separate nation under the crown.

History is written by the winners, and that of the losers and the people who endured a war tend to be lost. This is a wonderful museum that encompasses the memories of the Allies, the Germans who held the area, and the Bretons who endured war, deprivation, and occupation.

From 2 September 2019, the museum will be closed to the public due to renovation works, architectural and scenic modernization. However, an explanatory exhibition of the renovation project will be visible nearby. During this period, the museum also offers a travelling tour "In the footsteps of the maquisards of Saint-Marcel - History, Memory and conviviality" for groups (+20 people)

This exhibition is great and explains the history of the occupation really well. It is all in French (well it IS all about the French resistance) there is an English guide book with lots of reading.
