9 Seculos

9 Seculos - 9 Centuries - is a very special place situated in the very centre of the city that gave birth to Portugal. We are stories of Portugal. We bring you stories you can taste and wear, experiment and decorate with. Stories you can read, listen and tell. We discover and select creative and original stories for the world to hear. 9 Seculos opened to the public in December of 2014, aspiring to be a place showcasing the best Portugal has to offer. Located in the Porta da Vila, "Town Gates", a place where one of the entrances to the town used to be, which has been part of UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2001. It occupies the space of an old bookshop (A Siza Vieira-inspired design by architect Miguel Guedes in the 1980s, which remained untouched during the 20-year period that it was closed). Besides being of architectural interest, there is also a historical side: inside 9 Seculos there are 3 floating floors adjacent to the centuries-old city wall. Other than being a shop selling Portuguese products, amongst which you can find Bainha de Copas, Fine & Candy, Chocolataria Equador, Claus Porto, Herdade do Selao, etc), we also are an art gallery (with the old wall as a backdrop) regularly featuring modern Portuguese painters and one-off exhibitions of contemporary Portuguese artists. There is also a special selection of literature about art and portuguese culture, specifically out-of-print books, special editions and signed first editions. We also host get-togethers, talks, and concerts.
