Elodie Brideau from CIME Aventures helped me make all of the arrangements for our self-guided week-long canoe trip on the Riviere Bonaventure. I can't say enough about the fantastic service we received from Elodie for the planning and from all of the staff at CIME Aventures upon our arrival, shuttle to CIME and the top of the river (Andre was great), and once we paddled up to the dock. They even provided us with a small sheltered meeting area at the end of our trip so we could have one last pow wow before we all went our separate ways. The food there was really good too and it was nice to sit in the restaurant area after a week on the river. We didn't stay at CIME but the accommodations are nice (stayed in the yurt 8 years ago). We will be back soon...the Riviere Bonaveture is amazingly beautiful.

We hopped over and thé gentleman there was so nice, he let us stay until 45 minutes afterbhe was supposed to finish! He was so proud of telling us tales and talking about the Acadian history, and we were eager to learn more. An extremely informative outing for only 5$ per person. This was one of the highlights of our trip as we gît thé full taste of Acadian hospitality.

Ferme Bourdages Tradition

Reviewed By Amelie N - Canada

Picking strawberries has always been a tradition in my family and so being in the Baie des Chaleurs area, it is something I was looking forward to do. At Bourdages, there is the picking (8$ per 3L baskets) but also the small animal area where kids can drop by to pet them. It is important to point out that you need to drive to the picking area (I do not know if they have a bus or tractor to bring people to the fields). The small boutique offers a wide range of beautiful local products. The Bourdages Strawberry wine is well known and has recently received special awards. People from the area are fond of the pates, jams and pies and so dropping by for one or more of these is worth it.

Le Malin

Reviewed By Amelie N - Canada

Le Malin is a rougher section of the Bonaventure river. It got his name due to a section of small rapids that can be tricky for canoes and kayaks. The loops that constitute the area called Le Malin has amazing see-through turquoise water.
It is a rocky beach and so having water shoes is recommended. Children should also be wearing life-vests (can be rented there) when in or close to the water. The fun bit here besides enjoying the view and playing in the water, is to jump in at the top of the rapids and letting yourself be pulled by the water. Because it is so close to the sea and to the Bonaventure camping site, it is a nice option to go to on a sunny day.
There is a small cantine but having your own water and snack is always an option. There are no garbage bins so what you take in, you take out. The cost is low (5$ for a motorbike) as you pay for the parking. There are no facilities such as shops or restaurants in the area so plan ahead. There are pic-nic tables on the beach and a place to place volley-ball has been arranged.
The place is very popular amongst the locals and CIME Aventure often has groups canoeing or kayaking that can be seen on the river. Very quiet, very beautiful.
