What to do and see in Blue Mountains, Grey County: The Best Budget-friendly Things to do

December 1, 2021 Florencio Paulino

Although the name suggests otherwise, the Blue Mountains is an actual town in Grey County that consists of several small communities including Thornbury, Christie Beach, Clarksburg, Heathcote and Ravenna. The area is very picturesque and scenic in the summer months and during "apple season" in the autumn, but the town is most famous for its mountains. Tourists flock to Intrawest's Blue Mountain Ski Resort year-round for its wide array of offerings. If you aren't in the mood for skiing or snowboarding, take a stroll through Blue Mountain Village and enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes or a meal in one of the many restaurants located in the village.

Every time I have family visiting I make The Old Stanton store a must do activity.

My 3 year old daughter and I went for a fun afternoon and the "Pottery" class was our highlight! The techniques shown to us were very helpful and made it easy for my daughter to paint her Shark on her own the way she wanted! We had so much fun and it was just the right amount of time for a busy toddler. We cannot wait to receive our "surprise" in the mail and come back for more additions to her shelf.

Visited in November after the main run of Salmon had finished. We didn't see the main run but the fish we did see were pretty exciting. If you want to see the fish you have to keep your eyes on the base of the ladder for a few minutes as the fish jump lasts only a second and they rest between tries. There are lots of great vantage points to see the ladder from a few different angles. The area is really pretty so it's nice to come here for a look, stroll around or ride your bike, grab a snack or meal and browse the shops. Lots of benches and lawn around for picnicking too.

This is the best beach west of Wasaga: small and secluded, but getting more popular each year. It has picnic tables, barbeques, a playground, a boat launch, rocks and of course a sandy beach and grassed areas plus washrooms. If the parking lot is full, you can park on Lakeshore which can be accessed from Grey Road 19 and Kitzbuhl.

My new husband and I are in town on a mini honeymoon for a few days. My family really enjoys cider so I was very excited to see the process. Sadly, the business is not open for tours. We decided to stay 7and try the tasting menu and I am so glad we did. Our flight today included honeycrisp, cranberry, blueberry-elderflower and blood orange ciders ($10 - great selection and totally worth it!) We additionally tried the raspberry and rose ciders ($8ish for a pint). Our personal fav was the cranberry. Our server knew qe had just had lunch and because the place wasn't busy, let us just sip and lounge for a few hours.

Had a nice site at the west end of the park. Good view of Lake Huron. There were no other campers close to us so it was very comfortable. The park road does get bikers and hikers but at mid Sept there were not many. There is road noise but that sort of disappears when the waves are rolling in. There is little beach area as the site in on slate shoals which give a flat rock area which is good for wading or putting in a canoe or kayak. Nice spot to relax in and you can find trails to hike or other canoe spots which are not far to travel to.
