We were supposed to be seeing a band in the larger concert hall upstairs but the gig was cancelled. We still went to Belfast anyway and went to The Empire just to see what it was like. Glad we did. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and brilliant live music. It's in the University area of the city near to Botanic train station. We went on a Sunday night, not really expecting much to be on because people are back in work on the Monday. They must go in later in Belfast. The place was bouncing. A good selection of beers and they had lots of large screens dotted around the place. They show all the live sports. By the end of the night people were up dancing all over the place. Just a really friendly pub/venue with a great feeling about it.

Maddens Bar on edge of City Centre as you head towards the wonderful west Belfast is full of rustic charm and Belfast craic, humour and welcome. One of the finest selection of whiskeys in the city of which many of the new bars offer big Maddens collection had a genuine feel to it with real dust on the top shelf stuff! I had a few beers here recently on a Friday afternoon. Staff were 1st class and there was a real nice feel to the place. If you’re after a stand out Belfast Bar this is the 1!

We loved this bar at the back of Robinsons as it had bands on in the evenings starting at 10 pm and we were lucky enough on a cold Tuesday night to catch a fantastic 3 piece band who played original Irish music with Irish musical instruments. The band was on to 12 pm and could have watched them all night. The staff were very friendly and the Guinness was excellent as well. When they opened the outside doors at midnight the icy wind came in and cleared the bar in no time.

Sunflower Pub

Opened in December 2012 the Sunflower Public House is a hub of live music in Belfast city centre. Located right behind Belfast Central Library it is a 5 minute stroll from the heart of the Cathedral Quarter and a stone's throw (Belfast's standard unit of distance) from central Library. Pub of the Year 2015

Reviewed By kensmoon - Lincoln, United Kingdom

Unable to go into the pub due to the current restrictions I sat in the covered beer garden and sampled a couple of beers from the excellent drinks menu. From a great selection of craft beers I opted for the Kinnegar Black Bucket Dark Rye IPA, which had a rich aroma, full flavoured with a satisfying mouthfeel. Within the beer garden and in the surrounding area are vibrantly coloured murals which enhance the feel-good ambience. Many of the beers are suitable for vegans and there is a vegan option from the wood fired pizza oven. Enjoyed chatting to Niall, an upbeat and friendly member of the bar team, about beers, pubs and veggie food in the Belfast scene.
