The Gestapo headquarters is well worth the visit. The holding cells, the history of the people who were held there and their writing on the walls is extremely moving. You could spend a good hour or more just in this section. All the exhibits in this area are in both German and English. Strange that this isn't followed on the other floors. Although for a small extra fee you can get the audio guide which even in the holding cell area provides extra information. The execution yard is also very powerful. The other floors are a bit more general on the rise of Hitler, the concentration camps and life in Germany at the time.

Kathe Kollwitz really knew how to tease out emotion in her subjects. Her drawings and sculptures are very moving. And of course she lived during the most turbulent periods of German History. She was of the left. Her political observations are very powerful.

The special exhibitions remain open: i.e. the exciting photo exhibitions "Köln am Rhein" and "Köln an der Seine" from 24th August to 15th Decembre 2019. Enjoy the stunning archaeology of the treasury basement. Roman remains underneath the cathedral, then the stunning treasure of centuries of Christian faith. Lots to read. Very well presented. Well worth taking your time to read the information about the items on display. Fascinating !
