Elisiario

Inaugurated in 2006, the windsurfing school started operating at São João beach, but currently the school operates at Baía do Seixal, which is 15 km from Lisbon. Seixal Bay is a spectacular windsurfing spot, very good for initiation, improvement and speed enthusiasts, as the water plane is smooth and great for full throttle. The access to the spot is Seixal beach, known as “Ti João Beach” and we can count on the support, in terms of safety, with the Seixal Nautical Association, which has a boat with a sailor permanently in the water from 9am and up to 1 hour before sunset. This spot has the particularity of running all day long, if there is wind, and the low tide period is when the water plane is smoother and where you can reach the highest speeds in the two channels where you can sail during this phase of the tide. It is a spot that works all year-round spot with all wind directions, however the winds from NW to SW are the quadrants that guarantee the most consistency...

Gustykite Caparica Kitesurf School

Gusty Kite appears in 2003 in Guincho beach, the worldwide known windy beach, West of Lisbon. At the time there were almost no schools and we became the most recognized company in Portuguese market. In the next years we follow the growth of the sport and become the most successful kitesurf school in Lisbon area, having hundreds of students per year. In 2007 we opened new stations in Aveiro and Algarve and few more until 2010 with the first school in Angola. A renewed website and image is made in 2008, and again in 2013, adapting to the new upcoming technologies and more demanding customers. Also new schools appear both in Portugal as abroad becoming an international kitesurf company. We are fully certified and use the safest methods and equipments, to make independent kitesurfers an exciting, fast and safe process!

Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei

It’s easy to get the ferry to Cacilhas and then the bus 101 up to the statue. The park is a peaceful setting with great views of Lisbon and close up to the statue - a good place for a picnic - or you can ride the lift up to the viewing platform for the best views of Lisbon and the Iconic Bridge. Even if you don’t like heights there are very high railings and you will feel safe. There are quite a few narrow steep steps to climb so going to the viewing platform would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. This is a religious place and there is a prayer room and a chapel for those who want it, but non religious folk are made to feel welcome too.

Overlooking Lisbon

Reviewed By 750dimitrisl - Sydney, Australia

This is a really wonderful area to visit. It is primarily a place to visit so you can get some breathtaking views of the city of Lisbon. There are some good places to stop and eat or drink. There are cafes and lots of restaurants and other shops too. The major attraction is the National Monument to Cristo Rei (Christ the King), which is an enormously tall statue made of concrete. It was copied from the Brazilian Christ the Redeemer! It symbolises Portugal's good fortune not to suffer badly during World War II. Worth a visit.
