Although within the hotel complex, the castle itself is locked and cannot be accessed except to guided tours. The tours are approximately every hour, cost 4 Euros and last some 40 minutes.
Wait in the courtyard outside the doors to be met by a guide. The first thing that you will see when the large wooden door is unlocked is the wall in front, pockmarked with bullet holes where prisoners were executed in the Civil War. You will also see beautiful ceilings, spectacular murals (although frequently in a very poor state - you will hear why), the chapel and what little of the castle is open to the public, including a beautiful private garden, formally a cementry. You will also hear a lot about the Order of Calatrava - a Spanish equivalent of the Templars and, if you ask, some of the terrible history of the Civil War in the town.
The guide was good and well informed and the visit worth the small charge.

Es un restaurante de esos que no llama mucho la atención y eso no debe ser juzgado, hay que entrar!!! Fuimos a comer y no pude salir más contenta: la carne increíble, excepcional, el entrecot se deshacía en la boca. Las patatas insuperables, con sabor a patata de pueblo. Cervezas de marcas "extrañas" pero estaban muy buenas. El postre, pastel ruso, un poquito pequeñín, porque puede que sea porque soy golosa y me pareció poco. La relación calidad-precio bastante buena.

This is the largest square in Alcaniz, even though it is quite small compared to other Spanish towns, at least to my opinion. Still, it is a lovely place. The town hall stands like a gem with its columns. Its emblem is quite vivid displayed, chiseled in the town hall.
However, no hours were indicated when it would open.
From here we can admire the Cathedral Santa Maria la Mayor. Several cafes are lined up next to this square: to eat or drink. It is quite a place to relax and relax. We sure did.

70k people attended on the Sunday. Limited choices of food and beverages but despite the large crowds people were served fairly quickly.
We were disappointed with the lack of variety from vendors selling merchandise and frankly I have seen much better at other circuits in Europe. There was also a distinct lack of Seating and provision of shade unlike our experience at the Austrian GP in 2016 which was much better organised. The temperature on both Saturday and Sunday was in the late 20 degrees centigrade and people cooked in the heat.

Before I entered into this church, I stopped and admired its huge door. Its door was made of metal and it had quite a bit of decorations chiseled in the wall. It was truly beautiful! Wow!
Once inside, it was quite clear that this was built in the Gothic style, my favorite! I found out it was built in the 13th century. Quite old!
The nave and the ceiling were quite high and it looked more like a temple.
I was intrigued by the many paintings and statues. There were chapels in every nook!
A big crown was hanging from the ceiling right above the main altar. Majestic!
This church truly stands out!
When I came back that same evening, I saw several storks taking their lodge on the top of this church. No one would ever be able to disturb them! It’s an ideal place for a good sleep!
I truly enjoyed this church. Quite lovely!

This is a very friendly hostelry. They have a good selection of high quality local and regional wines. The menu provides a good choice of local dishes, of which we have tried many and all are delicious. The atmosphere is lively in the evening with many local patrons - you may have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for a table, but it;s worth it. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. We will return soon and often. Excellent value.
