Our coffee was cold as a result of a problem with the machine. Staff were very apologetic and soon brought hot coffee with some delicious chocolate truffles. A relaxed place to sit and catch up with emails.

Vid Pollinn Restaurant

Our Vid Pollinn restaurant has a fantastic view of Isafjordur. It is locatad ath Hotel Isafjordur. We serve local food both, seafood and meat dishes.

We are staying at the Hotel Horn which is lovely. They have a dining agreement with Vid Pollin. We are here on a self drive package. When we went for our first dinner it got confusing very quickly. They gave us their menu which looked lovely. Then when they found out we had prepaid they told us we could not eat off the menu and that we had to eat "what the chef chose for us." We were offered lamb and seafood soup. We can't eat lamb due to its richness. So they did offer a fish. We were told we could have only an appetizer and entree. And that when we came back the next night we could have an entree and dessert. But we couldn't have dessert that night.
Then they served sour dough bread that the chef said I couldn't eat due to my nut allergy. Hmmmm! Nuts in sourdough!?! We asked what kind of nuts and they came back and said, "mixed!?" Waaah?! Well I was hungry and decided to eat it anyway and good news is that I didn't die!!! Yay! No nuts.
Also it took an hour to get our food. Ugh! I know it's Europe folks but in the land of adventure travel waiting an hour is torture.
We were scheduled to go back the next two nights and decided we couldn't take any more torture. So we got our money back and went to Hamraborg across from the Horn. Nothing fancy but it did the job.

Tjoruhusid

Tjoruhusið is a fish restaurant in Isafjorður, Iceland. We only serve whatever's fresh out of the ocean on a given day, so there's no menu to speak of, but during high season we usually offer a buffet of everything good for dinner, while lunch tends to be a la carte.

For dinner, we generally do two separate seatings, at 7pm and 9pm, although we try to be flexible if possible. Do note that we are for the most part closed during wintertime (from early November 'til Easter, usually), and then that our openings in the early spring months tend to be sporadic.

We advise anyone intending to dine with us to call ahead to ensure we are open. Any special needs (lactose/gluten/etc) should be noted in advance.

Tjoruhusið does not operate a Reykjavik location and is not at all affiliated with any Reykjavik restaurant, regardless of what some of them might be claiming.

We went for lunch when our ship was in port. I did contact them beforehand about a reservation which I recommend. They were super busy but extremely nice and the food was fantastic. I don't especially like soup but the one they served--a delicious tomato based, creamy langoustine (Norwegian lobster) bisque--had me eating every bite. My husband was in heaven! Main courses in the buffet was cod and plaice in three different sauces. Some of the best fish dishes I've ever had. The bread was good. Even the WATER tasted good--pure Icelandic water is great. The coffee was strong and good. In fact everything we ate gets top marks.

Simbahollin Cafe

Simbahollin is a cozy, old-style coffeehouse in the middle of the fishing village Þingeyri (Thingeyri) in the Westfjorðs of Iceland. We are located in an old general store from 1915 and most of the original interior is still intact today. The house featured in the popular Icelandic movie "Noi the Albino" (2003), but it has an important history that goes back much further.
Today Simbahollin is owned by a Danish/Belgian couple who have restored the house. We opened the doors of the coffeehouse in the summer of 2009. Simbahollin's Belgian waffle with homemade rhubarb jam and cream became legendary after that first summer. Other popular things on our menu are great espresso drinks, cakes, muffins and cookies fresh from our ovens, homemade bread and soups, and lamb tajine made with famous Icelandic lamb (served in the evenings during high season).

We also run a horse- and mountain bike rental - you can find our tours on Tripadvisor under Simbahollin bike and horse rental.

We look forward to seeing you in Þingeyri!

After a challenging drive over Hrafnseyraheidi in thick cloud and very poor visibility we were delighted to come across Simbahollin, where we stopped for a welcome coffee and waffles. It's a delightful place, with lots of atmosphere and very friendly people running it. The coffee and the waffles were very good, and the home made rhubarb jam was very tasty. It also has outside Seating, some in an old bus! Clearly popular amongst the locals, it's well worth making a short detour off the main route on to Isafjordur.

Coffee stop whilst passing through this part of the Westfjords last week. They have retained the character of this building, and captured the historic heritage of this fishing village. The half portion of lamb soup to start was perfection, followed by a lobster and shrimp salad. The portions are on the large side, so we found half portions perfect. Their margaritas were fresh and delicious (not pre-mixed), and we loved the wit and warmth of the staff. Loved this restaurant!

If you are in Bildudalur, you must eat at Vegamot! The incredibly welcoming Hronn, and her chef husband Gummi serve inexplicably savory fare. You appear to be entering a minimart and then settle at rustic tables overlooking the harbor. And then open the menu to find fresh fish combined with seasonings from a wide variety of cuisines. We had fresh atlantic cod with an asian-insprired garlic sauce. It came with a salad that was so fresh and delicious we asked them to send out another salad! Dressed with wasabi, pesto, and sesame, it was incredible. The burgers and chicken sandwiches on the next table looked amazing.

My friend and I recently were passing by in Isafjordur town and by total coincidence discovered this charming original Café bar.
It was really pleasing to relax there for a while and enjoy their very good double "Americano" coffee (actually double expresso with a water to taste) with slice of carrot cake.
Yea, why not a taste of wine to accompany my friend's beer still to finish before continuing our journey among the AMAZING Westfjords!
