I am very skeptical when it comes to Portuguese food. When you are in Lisbon you are totally spoiled when it comes to food and nothing compares. So when I came to this restaurant I came with the expectation of being disappointed. Far from it. I cannot wait to go back. The prawns, the meat, the desserts were a perfect representation of Portuguese food. Freshness with a perfect blend of spices, served with passion and love.

Our South African friend recommended this as a must visit place to eat. We were a bit sceptical when we arrives as it's a no frills restaurant in the middle the shopping mall, as opposed to the water front. I'm so glad our first impressions were wrong. The wait staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. I had the prawns and couldn't believe how big the plate was and for such a reasonable price. It was a delicious meal. My friends had sushi and tempura mixed plate and they also loved it.

On 1 January 2019, my friends and I had dinner at John Dory's at Canal Walk, which was my 1st time ever trying their food. For starters I ordered the Scampi Prawns at R69, 3rd photo attached. This was nice, the shell I found was not completely removed above the tailpiece, which compared to other restaurants are removed. The size was also smaller than that at competitors, yet at the same price range. For my mains I had the Calamari Tubes & Prawns combo at R149. The calamari heads was the smallest I have ever eaten (see attached photo), and I could taste what appeared to be sand particles or something like it. This was quite off-putting. The calamari tubes was not tender as I have become accustomed to, and also had some sand taste in it. The rice almost covered ½ the pan which is unusual compared to other competitors as it should be a 1/3 of the plate serving (see attached photo). The prawns was very tasty yet smaller than I have eaten elsewhere. The basting was quite nice. For a first time I was not impressed at all and I would not easily return to a branch in the near future.Dear Faizelpet,Thank you for your review of John Dory's Canal Walk. We went there to look at the iconic view of Table Mountain from Blauwberg Strand. The beach too is incredible.Catch 22 is well positioned to enjoy the view. We tasted a combination of fish a chips, a burger and sushi.Although they took time to arrive the quality of each one was excellent and worth the wait. Overall a good lunch experience. Hake was really good pizza as well. Desert menu is awesome. Still waiting for the upgrade to be completed so menu booklets are a mess. Wine selection is poor. Still feel a lot more could be done with the fantastic location. Been here many years and not seen anything special. Letâs watch this space.

Wang Thai has been a long standing birthday outing for my husband and I. We first went to Wang Thai in Green Point over 12 years ago. As we both love Thai food this restaurant delivered on every level. Authentic decor, authentic taste and beautiful presentation. When it closed down a few years ago we were reluctant to try another Wang Thai for fear of being disappointed. However after our first visit to the Lagoon Beach Wang Thai we felt like we had come home. The same excellent service, the same delicious food. While my husband sticks to the chicken green curry because he says it is simply the best and having been to Thailand himself I trust his word on that, I love to try different dishes and have not once been disappointed. This most recent visit I tried the curry and roti which was a bowl of the green curry and a bowl of the yellow curry with scrumptious roti triangles. We usually have a starter and main and can highly recommend the spinach cones. It's so much fun to roll your own choice of fillings in fresh spinach leaves. From lemongrass and peanuts to chilli, toasted coconut and ginger, it's a real taste extravaganza each time you try a different combo. This time we did dessert and my deep fried bananas with creamy vanilla ice cream drizzled with honey and sesame seeds was absolutely wonderful. Neville looked after us very well and we had a really great evening. Their menu is extensive and they have tasty cocktail and mocktails. 2 thumbs for Wang Thai!!
