Vayots Dzor (Armenian: Վայոց Ձոր, Armenian pronunciation: [vɑjˌɔt͡sʰ ˈd͡zɔɾ] ( listen)), is a province of Armenia. It lies at the southeastern end of the country, bordering the Nakhichevan exclave of Azerbaijan in the west and the Kalbajar District (de jure part of Azerbaijan, de facto controlled by the unrecognized Artsakh Republic) in the east. It covers an area of 2,308 km (891 sq mi). With a population of only 53,230 (2002 census), it is the most sparsely populated province in the country. A beautiful place, wonderful kitchn (we tried Armenian kitchen), calmness, excellent service...A lot of good impressions...
"LTCHAK" (Little Lake) located on the artificial lake made on the Vorotan river. It is middle-west of Armenia.
They have gazebos placed right on the water, middle sized halls and a big (for 104 seats) hall.
Excellent for touristic lunch/dinner-stop during the trip to South of Armenia or to Artsakh (Nagorno Gharabagh). The have lunch-sets for 5 different costs. Of course, they have an open menue at your choice (a little expensive).
Ideal place to go with family, friends, couples, business partners... and solo.
Excellent friendly staff and owner!

Vorskan

The Vorskan Restaurant is on on the edge of the highway, Vayk-Goris 5 kilometers. Maybe hard to find but worth the visit. I've been there 4 times and each time has been memorable. Inside Seating, but if the weather is nice sit outside in private open air huts and hear and see the water of the river running by next to you. They have a typical Armenian menu with salads and kabobs, but call ahead to see if they caught wild rabbit. It is exceptional. Cooked slow, tender, tasty, with a sauce to die for. All meals are served with their Vayots Dzor bread "taptan," prepared in a circular vertical bake oven and served hot. A sight to see how it's made. They have a rice dish, don't know what it's called, but it is great. Rice with a tasty sauce, whole roasted garlic cloves, pieces of lamb, herbs.... Don't miss these two items. Oh well also the trout. Tasty and you'll want more. Don't eat much before. Save your appetite! You will not regret visiting this place. Did I say it was beautiful. IMHO, words cannot describe it.

Areni Tavern

Reviewed By Brun066 - Florence, Italy

Areni is a small Armenian town well known for its wine production, and where it was recently discovered what appears to be the oldest wine-making facility in the world (about 6,000 years ago).
We stopped here at the lunch hour, and we stumbled in this small tavern (we were the only visitors).
The tavern, despite its name, is very modern: it looks newly built.
The welcome was warm, typically Armenian. There has been proposed a tasty sheep cheese; a kind of dried meat; and finally some pickled drums of vegetables, reminiscent of the wild fennel. All was accompanied by excellent lavash (Armenian unleavened bread) and by equally good local red wine.
The bill (there were nine) was very low (as it is normal in rural Armenia), but can not remember the exact figure.
Noteworthy that we were allowed to eat, along with the above listed food, even our packed lunch (but I am not sure that this is always possible).
Overall it was a pleasantly rustic lunch, according with the character of the town and its territory.

I had a lunch here as a part of tour group, thus I cannot say anything about price or service; because we had our table arranged when we arrived. The food was good and the place, even in our rainy day was excellent, with many cabins near a small lake.

Situated at the top of the hill away from the other restaurants below, this place is such a rare find! Great food and service by a sweet Armenian lady!
We ordered the bbq trout which was excellent! The grilled pork was juicy and tender, and we had a homemade juice from mountain berries which was very refreshing.

ArpeNi Tavern

Reviewed By JGDynamo - Halifax Region, Canada

We stopped in for lunch at ArpeNi Tavern recently during our time exploring the area. It’s like going into someones house and getting a good meal and amazing pomegranate wine, woo! Cute dining area inside or do as we did and dine on the patio outside which was outstanding. The food was all very good, the wines we sampled were really good, maybe a little too good haha as I drank a bit too much of it, those fruit wines get me every time. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and our time there. One of our best meals so far in Armenia!

Gallery Cafe

Reviewed By ThomasfromDamascus - Damascus, Syria

The Gallery Café is located on the ground floor of the Hyatt Place Hotel and serves breakfast; lunch and dinner daily.
What really makes this restaurant special is the small Terrace which runs along one side of the dinning room and faces the Twin Lakes and the water channel to the Dolphin Lake. We had dinner on the Terrace each night during our four day stay at the Hyatt Place. It was so relaxing!
The service was proficient plus the food was outstanding! The Gallery Café has a great ala carte menu as well as a comprehensive Wine List. We enjoyed the great breakfast buffet each morning and a fantastic dinner each night.
If you find yourself hungry in Jermuk a stop by the Gallery Café is a must!
