Rude manager and dreadful service typify this place. Don’t have enough staff and those they do are surly. Simply don’t go and use the cafe on the beachHi I am so sorry you felt like this. We are a small family business and pride ourselves on delivering great service. Could I please ask who was rude to you as we don't have a manager and our staff are all really friendly and jolly. is it definitely Sennen bistro at Seaview holiday park you are referring to?

The Pirate Inn

Family run pub/restaurant with ample parking and a large beer garden with children's climbing frame. We sell Cornish Ales and Cornish lager, along side the usual pub classics. We are open seven days a week from midday and our restaurant is open seven days

We chose this place to eat because of the certificate of excellence status. However, it wasn’t as good as I was expecting. The food is good no frills pub grub and the place is family friendly. The service was welcoming and efficient. So all in all a great place if you’re on holiday with the family and on a budget but it wasn’t a place that was notable or a ‘must visit’.

We had drinks here one night, and came back the next night for dinner. We loved the warm, cosy decor, good choice of drinks and pretty good food. The only thing that wasn’t great was the service; a lot of errors both times, the staff were friendly but lacked professionalism. They forgot to bring menus and to seat us in the restaurant until well after the reservation time, and every drinks order was messed up. All in all, however, we forgave the slapdash service because the ambiance and food made up for it. We would go again if we were in the area.Good evening honeyHenleyonThames,Thank you for your time writing this review.I am happy to hear that you loved the atmosphere of the Restaurant, and I will be sure to pass on your comments about the food on to the kitchen.I am sorry that the service was not to the standards that you wanted. Please feel free to contact the management team via phone or by emailing us at [email protected] to provide some extra information, so that we can work to insure that this does not happen again. We appreciate all feedback to help our eccentric charmed slice of Penzance grow.Kind RegardsRyanDuty manager

What else can I say... great local with a wonderful pint of Guinness, lovely landlord and lady who make you very welcome. Didn’t eat but lots of Sunday roasts being ordered, don’t think there was a vegan or veggie alternative but everyone was everyone enjoying the carnivorous option. Don’t expect any frills mind, that’s a good thing in my book

Have been coming here for over 20 years for Sunday lunch with my family. Have happily given five star reviews before. The Sunday roast is usually awesome and excellent value for £8.50. In many ways it is a perfect venue with a public bar and , pool table, function room and smaller side room for additional eating.Last time we came was 4 months ago and it was fab. Today the general feeling from all of us was that things had let slip. Things didn’t get off to a good start: we had to send some cutlery back because it had food on it. The young lady who served us kept forgetting to bring things we had asked for. We had to ask for our drinks twice and we ended up going up to the counter for the condiments which we had requested. Minor points perhaps but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect your horseradish sauce with the beef. We chose to wait but risked the food going cold. With respect to the food, the Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and gravy were all great as usual. I felt the vegetable and meat portions were smaller and the beef was over cooked. This could have just been a blip: I gather there was a festival in St Just the previous day and one of the staff was as they described it was “hanging”.If I were to offer a constructive observation it would be this; the Commercial always benefitted from the presence of the old lady who played the “mine host” role well. She circulated amongst the customers checking that everything was alright. That way any niggles were addressed early and corrected. On the occasion we visited it didn’t feel like anyone was in charge. The staff didn’t feel on it.I can see that the manager reads the reviews and I hope he/she understands that these comments have been as objective as possible. Dear nobster666Cardiff thank you for your comprehensive observations of last Sunday's lunch service. We have not changed anything about the way either serve or cook our roasts since your last visit 4 months ago so it is disappointing that you did not enjoy your roast this time around. We feel we still offer an incredibly good value, home cooked, traditional roast. Now I will address your other concerns. Yes you did visit us the day after our Lafrowda Festival weekend and yes I know one or two members of my young staff had turned up for work not at their best! However our Sunday lunch service should be the easiest of the week and you most certainly should not have had these problems. With regards the hosting, my dear Mum passed away suddenly last year (so you will most certainly have also missed her in her "mine host" role 4 months ago as well) and as such that is now another of my roles if I am not required in the kitchen with the chefs. However, this Sunday we must have missed one another probably because in between me popping in and out of the dining areas I spent the entire day cleaning the pub, getting stock put away, sorting tills, dealing with guests leaving and arriving and generally dealing with the aftermath of owning and running the biggest, busiest pub in the town following our busiest weekend of the year.So yes given the timing of your visit I am perfectly aware that The Commercial was not running at its best for this particular Sunday lunchtime but to be quite honest if you had seen the place the night before after we closed our doors I think you would quite frankly be amazed to see us up and running Sunday lunch service at all. However there is no excuse for you being given poor service since I have already stated Sunday lunch is by far the easiest of dinner services that we do because we do limit our menu due to the numbers that we cater for week in and week out. I welcome all reviews as I view them as a business tool by which you can learn and improve. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to leave us your thoughts.

We popped in for a pint and decided to stay for an early evening meal as well. Contrary to other recent reviews posted here, we were served fairly quickly by friendly staff. We both chose the home made chicken, ham and leek pies which were absolutely crammed with meat and delicious, served with new potatoes and vegetables. Pleasantly impressed with the food, I would definitely come back again.

We were staying at the nearby campsite, and booked here as we could walk. Very pleased we did. Friendly staff and comfortable surroundings. My husband had the steak and ale pie, and I had the three cheese tart. Both were delicious and appeared home made, with crispy chips and perfectly cooked vegetables. Lovely chocolate pudding to finish. Will definitely return!!
