Reviewed By Andre8910Brilliant place to stay. Truly caring staff that delivered excellent service - and food. The venue is very pretty and peaceful. I will return for sure for a week-end away from the hustle and bustle of city live. And for Bikers, Hey there is an R1 to drool over on the venue.

A lovely way to spend my 65th birthday
Reviewed By DHenry3004My wife treated me to a wonderful weekend away at Bushman's Neck Hotel for my 65th birthday. The views of the Drakensberg from the hotel are amazing. Our room had everything we needed and was cleaned on a daily basis. We did most of our own catering but made use of the Restaurant on the Saturday evening and the meal was top class, especially the oxtail. There are many things to do at Bushman's Neck but the best are the walks and just lazing next to the pool with a gin and tonic. It was our second visit and on the first visit we struggled with the roads but these are now much improved. One of our favourite places to visit!

The resort offers 14 modern self-catering log cabins in park-like surroundings. Eland Valley is the ideal getaway for the whole family, fishermen, and nature lovers. Each of the two-bedroomed cabins accommodates up to six persons (adults and children). We also have one bedroom cabins for couples. Cabins are fully furnished, equipped with TV, and are self-catering and serviced daily by maids. Guests need only bring food and beverages. Braai areas are available. Reviewed By charne25peelThe place was incredible ! Right by the water and staff were very friendly. Peaceful setting with a game room and amenities not to far from Eland Valley. The dam view was amazing and to top it all off we had a dog visiting us which made it feel more like home!

Pennygum Cottages are a fabulous base to explore the Southern Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa. Our 4 cottages are set in beautiful gardens and apple orchards in 10 acres of land with stunning views of the berg from each cottage. The cottages are well equipped for self catering - our African Dreams is a thatched rondavel 'honeymoon cottage' which sleeps 2-4, our Lavender Cottage sleeps 4 and 2 children, Apple sleeps 6-8 and our Family Cottage set in its own garden with a private drive sleeps 10. All have braai areas and sitting out areas. Most cottages have fireplaces for cold winter nights and also all have DVD players with complementary DVDs. There is a splash pool in Summer and also rafting and tubing on site in season. There is a small children's play area and daily maid service.
Over the moon at Pennygum in Underberg
Reviewed By LHWsaWe stayed at Pennygum Cottages for three lovely nights. Our hosts, Pierre and Jackie (and their dogs), warmly welcomed us. Since the guest in our booked cottage, Hlogoma, had left late, we were upgraded free of charge to a larger cottage. Lungi and Goodness made sure everything was clean and organised for our stay. Each cottage is positioned so that they all have privacy and views of the sunset and mountains. The cottage is comfortable, spacious and like a home, not a hotel. Proper mattresses, electric blankets and a well appointed kitchen are just a few of the quality amenities. Our first night's firewood, fresh milk and freshly ground coffee were on the house. Pennygum cottages are just on the outskirts of Underberg and close to good restaurants and en route to the Drakensberg Gardens. A short walk down the servitude takes one to the Mzimkhulu River where one can enjoy a leisurely stroll and do some Birding. Pierre has lived in Underberg for many years and very generously shared his knowledge of area highlights and offered excellent advice that helped make the most of our visit. We'll definitely be back in Underberg and we'll most certainly be staying at Pennygum Cottages again.

A great place to stay for birding enthusiasts
Reviewed By Muncie_birderI was with a birding group of 7. We stayed here 2 nights and our host drove us to Lethoso. He himself is an expert birder in this area. We had great breakfasts and heard Buff-spotted Flufftail in the garden but could not find it. About 20 Red Bishops came to the feeders at once

The Old Hatchery - Simply my worst ever guesthouse experience
Reviewed By johnwood2015Arrived Dec 15. - No hot water - No soap or shampoo - cheapest 1 ply loo roll We had booked for the one night at the start of a motorcycle tour and returned at the end of the tour. To late to find parking for our vehicles and no option to return at tour end. On our return we were heading for bed when a large group of guests arrived drunk and rowdy (11pm). Owners simply allowed them to stay. They partied, screamed and jumped up and down above us until we eventually left at 3;50 am without any sleep. Owners of the Hatchery only responded to my messages at 9;30 the following day. First message sent before 12pm. Bearing in mind we had 1450km drive back to Cape Town the next day, on zero sleep. To add insult were overcharged by R200 rand per person per night and the owner refuses to respond to my messages. (we arrived back tired from our tour and presented with the bill to pay). I paid and only later the next day checked the emailed quotes sent to me.
