Reviews on Hungarian food in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, Romania. Cluj-Napoca is the unofficial capital of Transylvania, and though you (probably) won’t find vampires here, you can explore castles, fortresses, botanical gardens, museums and parks. Cluj-Napoca has a vibrant arts scene that embraces both the traditional and the progressive. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy classical concerts, theatrical performances, puppet shows and music of every genre, from jazz to modern pop to electronica.

We went to have some delicious lamb burgers that we had other times and we really liked. I don’t know what happened, if they changed the chef but the dish was disappointing: hard bread and old, reheated fries that seemed to be from the bottom of the pot, not a single whole one as size. And there were only a few tables, not a full restaurant!Thank you for your feedback and appreciation. We are sorry the food wasn´t up to expectations, we will announce or kitchen about this.We look forward to being of service to you again.

I'm a solo traveler and was staying nearby so this was recommended. I was there at an in-between time. Not lunch rush and not dinner rush. There were maybe 4 tables of people when I arrived. I loved the building & the many options as to where to dine. Indoors. Out on any of several patios. likely more. When I arrived, a waitress was walking away from me. I stood in the doorway waiting to let someone know I was there. I stood for quite a while. (I do think she saw me.) A waiter wizzed by. I was able to glance the food he was carrying and get an idea of a portion I wanted, but not to get that waiter's attention. A group of 5 guys who finished eating got up and stood at the counter to pay. I could tell they were regulars. I asked one of them what he prefers there. He said Goulosh, and realizing I'd not tried that yet, knew it's what I'd get. However my waiting continued. I finally broke in and asked one of those wait-people if I could sit and eat. Yes, sit anywhere. I sat at the table nearest the door and counter. I waited some more. After a little while, I waved to order. The waiter came over and I ordered. The waiter asked if I wanted bread with that. I asked if that was the common way to eat it and he said yes. So soon after I had my meal. I did really enjoy my first real Hungarian Goulash. I can't say it's the best ever as I have no comparison but I did like it. The meat was clearly good quality. It was tender. The potatoes where perfect. I loved the sauce. Upon finishing my meal, I realized this was the style of the staff -- that they let us get their attention rather than come to ask us. In ways, I like this. So when I saw a waitress I got up to ask for my bill. In the meantime, I had all the time I needed to enjoy my meal and didn't feel pushed.Thank you so much for your kind words. We really appreciate you taking the time out to share your experience with us. Hope to see you again if you're ever back in town!

Rhedey Cafe

The Rhédey House is a piece of history in itself. It is the history of the city’s main square. Its walls conserve Cluj’s past – the unique flavour of each era of the city. If they were able to speak, they would tell a story about Gábor Bethlen, and they w

Saw the great reviews of RHEDEY cafe on tripadvisor so decided to give it a try. You enter a cozy, warm modern cafe in the centre of CLUJ and are greeted by friendly smiles.Waitress shows me to a table, not very busy at about 1600, around 10 tables full.Started off with a local brew, nice and cold and ordered the goulash. It arrived piping hot with local bread. The aromal of the food opened up my appetite further. The food and beer was enjoyed so much I ordered a second portion, to take away to eat in the apartment. I tried goulash in VIENNA a few months ago and ten days ago in BUDAPEST!!!! and this was the best. All this for 22 RON (GOULASH) 8 RON beer. Are you kidding me, about 6 euro. Looked at the extensive menu and saw a variety of meals to satisfy many taste buds. The two waitresses that served me seemed to be enjoying their job, as they were very helpful to me and other tourist at the cafe. It seems to be a favourite with the locals because I saw a continuous flow of customers coming and going during my 45 min. stay. This place is a gem, and ideally situated near a great big church, and a busy shopping area. Will definitely go back to try, enjoy other courses.

I've visited the restaurant as I heard many good things. Unfortunately, half of the menu was not available although the dishes sound nice. I ordered a greek cheese pie with spinach. It was drowned in heavy cream and it didn't seem very fresh (I'm not saying it wasn't fresh, just that it didn't look like it). The taste wasn't bad but it mostly tasted like heavy cream. And I didn't see spinach in it. The prices are good, though. And the location is great.

Had a group dinner at Bistro Tamas on a autumn Tuesday night. What an excellent experience. We had a wonder goulash, salads, local wine and apple cake all was great. The second generation owner served us, he and our waitress were responsive. The three piece band included violin, string double bass and accordion were very entertaining, then a local dress group really wowed us. Thank you Bistro Tamas.
