Altar Wedge Tomb

The tomb itself is interesting - 4000+ years old. However the best part is the view out over the water. Lots of rocks and cliffs. Sun sets across the bay, which makes this a lovely end-of-day spot.

Fastnet Lighthouse

We took the Fastnet Tour, with stops on the way out and back at Clear Island. Everyone loved it and our party was mixed including the elderly and very small children.
The rock itself is amazing. The staff on the boats are lovely. Clear Island is beautiful. We saw dolphins on the way back in.
It takes the bulk of the day, 11am - 5pm, although you can do shorter trips to Clear Island and back by lunchtime, leaving out the Fastnet leg of the journey.

We spent 2 nights in the yurts on the island. The hiking walks were beautiful and challenging in parts. The locals were incredibly friendly and happy to chat.
The pub was very cool. The food was awesome - we went 2 nights in a row !!
Even on a wild and windy day we still had a ball. Was a highlight of our Ireland trip.

Cape Clear Ferry

Ferries to Cape Clear Island daily from Baltimore pier and during the summer months from Schull pier (June-August). Day tour to the Iconic Fastnet Rock Lighthouse & Cape Clear Island

Reviewed By TravellingShopper18 - Ottawa, Canada

On an impromptu basis, on September 18, we decided to drive to Baltimore from Clonakilty to do the Fastnet Boat Tour. We checked the fastnettour.com website that showed September 18 as green, meaning that the tour was a go. So we drove the hour down to Baltimore, arriving an hour plus early, as specified by the website.
We found the pier easily, but couldn't find a soul to ask about the tour. We found a few locals at the pier, who didn't seem to want to be bothered with us, but one finally suggested that we talk to the Harbour Master. We went into the Harbour Master's office. The man in the office couldn't be bothered to raise his head from his computer to acknowledge us. Dealing with us was deferred to the woman in the office who told us that we'd have to wait and talk to the Cape Clear ferry operator when he arrived around 10:30-10:45 am. We continued to wait and finally around 10:45, the ferry rounded the Sherkin Island.
After the ferry came along side and the arriving passengers disembarked, we asked the young man who was working on the ferry (who was helping passengers with the baggage) about the Fastnet Boat Tour. He simply said, it's not running. We expressed surprise because the website had said that it was running. He just said it's not running. We then asked about if we went ahead and went to Cape Clear Island when we'd be able to return to the Mainland. He hesitated and then said 5 o'clock, however, the doubt he expressed left us concerned if we'd be able to get back to the Mainland.
I cannot tell you how disappointed we were that we were not able to take this tour, but more than that, we were frustrated with the lack of accurate information on the website, and the sparsity of helpful and informed individuals to guide out of town visitors.
Inerestingly, a few hours after we left Balitmore we observed that the tour was still marked as green!

This is the only Planetarium in the republic of Ireland. The shows held here show star constellations and stargazing tips. The Planetarium is a community run operation and is well worth a visit. The Planetarium shows are given by young, fresh and enthusiastic students from the college making it very entertaining.

Best experience of my (rather rainy) recent trip to Schull. Entry fees were cheap and the star show came with engaging and informative commentary from a very charming and knowledgeable local student. Five stars!
