We went down to the park during a festival and it was a great time they had a beach on the lake for kids to play in and they have boats to rest to paddle on the lake. This is a wonderful play. Great for a day trip to just get out and spend time with the family.

Mount Rogers National Recreation Area

Reviewed By bwodom - South Carolina

This is beautiful country, particularly suited to outdoor enthusiasts. Mt. Rogers is the tallest mountain in Virginia and there are plenty of trails and streams for hikers and fishermen. The Appalachian Trail runs though here and there are many smaller trails. Campgrounds are located throughout the area -- mostly run by US Forest Service or State of Va. Private rental cabins are also scattered about. You won't find big city conveniences but you will find plenty of natural beauty and as much solitude as you desire.
If you are not an experienced hiker or biker, try the Virginia Creeper Trail near Damascus. You can take a shuttle to the top of the 18-mile trail and hike or ride -- downhill -- back to town. There are several "pit stops" along the trail, including an old train station (Green Cove Station) with some interesting stuff inside and a cute little restaurant mid-way that has great ice cream!

I was scared but I felt the course was very safe. The instructors Zack and Kyle were very knowledgeable. This allowed me to overcome my fear and conquer this course. As scared as I was, I am ready to do it again. I highly recommend this place. The zipline is a must do. We will be back next year.

This is a great addition to the local area-- I have attended 2 uncorked Paint Parties and had a blast each time! No experience needed (and certainly none had!) but Jack and Catherine have plenty of artistic experience to share. Classes in quilting, letter press, music, etc are also held at the Henderson.
